Infinity Exclusive Preview! Sekban Special Naval Unit!
January 14, 2014 by brennon
The folks over at Corvus Belli have dropped us another supply package of exclusive shots for the new Sekban Special Naval Unit for Haqqislam and the Qapu Khalqi Sectorial Army. See what you make of these Infinity soldiers of renown...
Here's a bit of fluff for all you background lovers...
The Sekban Unit was created by the Sultan as a regular voluntary corps to serve as a defense force for Haqqislamite orbitals and caravansaries. The voluntary character of the unit was the reason it received the name of the old irregular musketeer regiments of the Ottoman Empire, which also used volunteer troops.
Initially, the Sekban were a garrison unit, without a calling or training as an elite force. Its members were expected by the High Command and the general population to serve as a deterrent for pirates and raiders, and little more. But that changed with the tragic events of the Silk Revolts. When dissident Silk traders turned against the government after Hachib Mudassar decreed strict fiscal reforms, and used their vast resources to hire mercenaries to consolidate their power base, the Sekban remained firm and loyal. All the money in the hands of those who wanted to establish a plutocracy and oppress their families and neighbors could not buy the loyalty of a corps steeped in Haqqislamite ideals and with a duty to defend.
The Sekban fought hard and fought well, often isolated in remote caravansaries in distant systems, without the possibility of receiving reinforcements or support. They obtained many victories, but they also suffered defeats. The worst of them was when, despite their sacrifices, they were outnumbered and failed to avert the Al-Umara Station Massacre. The Silk Revolts left their mark on this unit, and changed it forever.
When the revolts ended, they were no longer a garrison unit, but a veteran corps that could stand up to anyone. The Sultanate rewarded their loyalty by transferring them to the Special Operations Command, where they were rebuilt as an elite assault unit. Although members are still recruited from among the civilian population, candidates now have to endure an extremely severe training, because the Sekban Unit will not allow a slaughter of innocents like the Al-Umara Station Massacre to happen again while one of its members still stands.
These chaps sounds bad ass and look bad ass too. Haqqislam players have got some very interesting soldiers to look out for and I imagine they will be taking to the battlefield as soon as possible!
It's nice to see a bit of the old mixed in with the new when it comes to the background of this unit and it gives you an idea and understanding as to how they should be fighting on the tabletop.
Will they be joining your force?
Damn it! Now I am tempted to start a Haqq army! They look awesome, nice load outs too.
Wow, so they have HRL, Spitfire, chain colt, AP rifle and boarding shotgun with 360 visors, linkable, low SWC, reasonable points and ARM 3? TOYS!!!
I freaking love the love of these guys! The first sekban model was so-so simply because of the launcher, but now we have four ‘infantry’ models and they really do look awesome. I don’t play Haqq (or, err, Infinity) but I will have to pick these up to use as character models!
I… love the love? Stupid phone.
Love the LOOK 😀
I just picked up the single blister not too long ago and was struggling to figure out what to use as proxys for a linked team. CB must have been listening to the prayers for the dice gods. I look forward to picking these up, getting them painted, and putting them on the field.
Well… looks like I’m going Haqq for my next army. These guys look amazing. CB just keeps doing a great job it’s hard to believe sometimes.
Nice, love the pistol guy.
Also begging to be played on zero g table vs corregidor
There’s an idea!.. magnets in the bases and a metal frame (perhaps a series of metal paint tins in a line to make a tube, or some kind of metal drum) with terrain on it to represent the outer hull of a ship. LOF would be broken up by the curvature of the tins.. and parabolic fire would be impossible. Hmm..
I wonder if anyone would dare to have their TAG upside-down on the hull 😀
Screw Aleph, I’m starting Haqq next!
They really shouldn’t be showing these to everyone. It just ruins it for those who want to have the best models on the table. 🙂
sweet!
Fantastic, just fantastic.
Really love the pistol pose, but the rest look great too.
Wow, they look great. I was looking to add these guys to my haqq force, but could only see the missile launcher models. These are amazing!
Suddenly a Starter force for Haqqislam is on my radar too. I’m ecstatic but my wallet isn’t.
This is one of those “death by snoo snoo” moments…
Looking good, and their rules allow them to act as a second 3-man link if you already have a 5-man link. Must admit I have proxied them in a force as follows:
3 Sekban (1 with big gun)
1 Sekban Doc
5 Kaplan (inc 1 big weapon and 1 engineer)
just saying they are worth a look
I was just about to mention that they are the second viable Harris unit iirc, I was toying with a merc heavy Qapu-Khalqi army but I’m leaning slightly more towards Tohaa but these model’s are definitely an awesome-looking bunch why do CB continue to make me want to spend my money on armies I don’t own yet…whhhhyyyy!!!
lol
We feel the pain also…
I think this rounds out my overly huge selection of Haqq now , inshallah I can get them painted and playing soon..
