Solomon Kane Launches On Kickstarter & Funded!
June 12, 2018 by dracs
Mythic Games Kickstarter for their new game Solomon Kane has gone live.
Based upon the stories by Robert E. Howard (creator of Conan), Solomon Kane is a narrative adventure board game featuring exceptional 35mm miniatures.
It is a highly innovative co-operative game of storytelling, resource management, and tactical miniatures play. You can see some of the amazing miniatures that have been painted up by the talented team here, showing off the variety of forces at work from pirate captains...
...to the shadows which are very much a force in the background of Solomon Kane. They are not truly there, but represent the shadows and darkness following Solomon Kane and seeking to do both him and the other innocents of the world harm.
Instead of playing as Solomon Kane himself, you are taking on the role of the different aspects of faith which watch over him as battles against the shadow...
...but of course, you want to see beyond just the models and explore what else the game has to offer.
It has a rich focus towards narrative and story development where you not only tell stories akin to those of Robert E. Howard but also stories entirely new to the character BUT in keeping with the ethos of Kane.
You can find out more about the game in our recent Let's Play where we delved into one of the first quests from the game (pictured in the image below) as Solomon Kane tracks a lost soul through the marshlands and confronts a deadly spirit.
...or check out our interview with Az at UKGE which again goes deeper into the method behind the scenario building and how it plays out on the tabletop. It's something very atypical to what you might have first thought which I like a lot. There is a real sense of shared cooperation and resource management in there.
Here is a look at just what you get inside that core box, broken down for your ease...
The Main Box
...but of course, it wouldn't be a Kickstarter campaign without some additional extras and stretch goals to help build on the experience.
Stretch Goals
Here is just a taste of what they've already unlocked so far with more pouring in each time I check on the page!
These are just some of them, including the introduction of Providence to the tabletop as a fellow guide to Solomon Kane, complete with her new skills and abilities which she brings to the tabletop.
I particularly liked the addition of Matthew Hopkins here who was one of the original Witch-Hunters from history and inspiration behind characters like Solomon Kane and later the likes of the Empire in Warhammer Fantasy and their Sigmarite Witch-Hunters too.
Head over to the Kickstarter and let us know what you think.
Are you planning on getting into this game?

Interested, but don’t have the money. ?
$200k in less than an hour, it seems to be going alright.
Backed it. The interview on the weekend probably is what sold me.
Still not impressed. If it was plastic free and half the price I might back it, but the plastic seems superfluous and just an excuse to hike the price.
well at 82quid… I cannot resist…
I am onboard.
The figure’s for this game are looking fabulous.
I normally wait and see how a Kickstarter goes before backing but the Early Bird was a real no brainier so I had to snap that up.
I backed I’m still not totally convinced by the game but we’ll see what happens. I’ve passed that ‘wow loads of miniatures for free’ KS craze phase now so really it’s about how much the game design draws me in. To be fair in the last two months I’ve dropped a small fortune on board games (Gloomhaven, The 7th Continent, Aeon’s End, Helionox Deluxe Edition, Arkham Horror LCG, The City of Kings, Unbroken, Gloom of Kilforth, Crypt, Batman Gotham City Chronicles All In) I’m trying to expand my collection of board games that offer a solid single player variant whilst… Read more »
i am in – cant resist – like every time – another 200 minis to paint – that does not make the herb any more fat (german saying)
and this KS is a present to my wife for our 28 anniversery today – not sure she like it
How romantic – Alles erdenklich Gute zum Hochzeitstag!
The triumph of hype, shiny plastic and card over compelling gameplay.
I’m in. even though I still haven’t painted anything from Conan or MB:P and have J.o.A to come!
The minis looked good painted which were on the the play through, but I’m not convinced on the game so going to miss this one.Got way too much to paint as it is.
I am in for this one because it is different from my usual fare – life is about trying other things, exploring off the beaten track. I like the minis; the Let’s Play was fascinating and I watched one of the live plays on the KS. I reckon it needs more demos to prove to the audience that this is a thought-provoking game.
Shame to see the thing stall out. It’s been talked over to death, but I would have expected better of Mythic than to let that happen. Poor core box value, unappealing play video, and wasting valuable momentum on fake stretch goals when they should have been focused on wowing people so they’d stay. That’s just not them.
