The new Creality Ender 3 was on special at release for around £150 and can still be found for around that price for now. People have been getting phenomenal quality prints on these for an FDM printer: https://www.reddit.com/r/3Dprinting/comments/8kmy63/oc_3_weeks_of_mini_printing_on_the_ender_3/

I was in much the same boat – have wanted get start 3D printing terrain for ages but couldn’t justify the cost of something like a Prusa. For the price of the Creality printers, and the reviews they are getting, it seemed like the perfect time to jump in.
