The Adventure Guild Take You On An RPG Journey Into Quest!
June 8, 2018 by brennon
The Adventure Guild is on Kickstarter right now looking to fund their new role-playing game, Quest. This game takes out a lot of the busy work from your role-playing games and makes it accessible to everyone.
The Quest is still a game about battling monsters, exploring the world and completing quests, but it has a heavy narrative focus, even down to the ability cards that each of the classes has at their disposal.
In Quest, your character doesn't increase in statistics but instead develops more powerful skills draw from these decks. You can either pledge to get yourself these decks as a separate component or just get the main book which contains all of this information. The cards would probably be handier though!
I like that the game takes away that number crunching side of things and instead puts the emphasis on your skills developing as you unlock your potential. A lot of the other aspects of the game are handled in the same way with Treasure being less mechanical and instead, narrative focused, meant to spur on your imagination.
Combat in the game is also handled very simply. All you need to play is a d20 (clearly one of the best dice ever) and you are ready to go. Fights, social clashes and other skill tests are simply done using the d20 roll and whatever bonus you have from your stats. Your results are then measured against a scale of triumph, success, setback, and catastrophe giving you a narrative effect rather than just 'you hit the goblin'.
Even distances and such is done through the minds-eye so you'll have a scope on the scene but not have to worry about flanks and all that nonsense. This is the way I prefer to do by combats and such anyway!
I am very taken by this game and can't wait to see how it turns out.
What do you think?

This looks excellent, the artwork is beautiful and I love the ability cards that can speed up gameplay. Anything that can take away dice from an RPG I think is a good move for creating a story. It’s just a little too expensive for my budget unfortunately.
Aye I might have to wait till retail for this one – but it does look so absurdly pretty and I love the ideas behind it.
The idea isn’t bad, but the execution is kind of ‘meh’.
It has a wall of text on thew few cards we’ve seen.
I’m not sure if that will make the game faster.
very nice style to the art but the colour palette is exceptional. I do like the use of cards for visual impact and ease of play. they’re not tied into anything mechanically here so it needs to hit the mark on the first two really. i feel ease of play will depend on how much space you have at your table and how big your deck is. they certainly have visual impact and having your own personalised spell book make them a win regardless. i also like the idea of gaining skills as opposed to stat increases. i would love… Read more »
