I’ve been on the fence for ages about 3D printing. Till I saw some items at UK Games Expo last weekend. I was blown away. So I’ve been looking on the old computer ever since. The prices vary from a couple of hundred pounds to thousands. I don’t want to build one. (read that as I’m not that technical.) So been looking at the pre built ones. Then there are some that only use their own filament which is chipped. So came across this. So has anyone here got one and what are they like? I will be a newby so it’s got to be easy to use, as I start my journey. Any help or advise would be great. Amazon have them with money off at the moment but they are still £650. Good job I sold my motorbike, so have some cash just don’t want to waste it
The internet is great but people out there are not as honest as us good folk here so before I splash my cash a friendly review from a fellow a beasts of war member would be great.

I have never heard of it. Based on reviews it seems pretty good. I would take a look at the Creality CR-10 Mini. It’s half the price and with a larger build volume, but only a single extruder.

3D printing is all about how much time, effort, and money you want to put in.

I have a Makerbot Replicator 2, which is the form factor for the Quidi printer. It works well and I have made a few upgrades, but I have been running up against my build volume and a z-axis wobble lately. My solution was to order a Creality CR-10S for a massive increase in build volume.

Ive just been looking at CR 10S on line about £399. which gives me, a dilemma. I was looking at an enclosed printer little hands and fingers can’t get in near the hot bits. Have you got your CR10S yet, what is it like, lots I have read say the glass bed isn’t flat some have bought mirrors to replace it, which Ive just checked and I can get a pack of 2 for about £6 near me.

You can easily create a enclosure and secure it.  This is for a Prusa Mk3 but you can adapt this to any printer by using a larger version of the table that Ikea has available or build your own.  Making it safe is easy.  While my children will be both off to college next year, I have smaller nieces and nephews so I still have to keep the house safe.

what are you hoping to print with it ? 🙂 because it’s useful to check all the print specifications for each printer, especially layer resolution, to see what’s best for the things your trying to achieve 🙂

I did a quick check of the specs, and the layer resolution is down to 100 micron, which should be pretty decent for terrain, as it’s a larger item 🙂 a little bit of clean up, and a coat of paint, and it should look quite good 🙂

if you were hoping to do very high quality prints for minis, 25 micron layers (or lower preferably) is what your looking for, although that starts to get a bit expensive to buy obviously 😛

admittedly, I’ve not worked with that specific printer before, but I hope that helps a little bit anyway 🙂

Thanks for the advice guys. Yes it’s terrain making I’m looking for and the odd bits and bobs that break around the home that I will be able to print small fixes. Same with making kids A few bits to amuse them too. The safety aspect was the most important so thanks turbocooler. I will look at doing just that. So ordered the CR10S. Let the journey begin.

The new Creality Ender 3 was on special at release for around £150 and can still be found for around that price for now.  People have been getting phenomenal quality prints on these for an FDM printer: https://www.reddit.com/r/3Dprinting/comments/8kmy63/oc_3_weeks_of_mini_printing_on_the_ender_3/

I was in much the same boat – have wanted get start 3D printing terrain for ages but couldn’t justify the cost of something like a Prusa.  For the price of the Creality printers, and the reviews they are getting, it seemed like the perfect time to jump in.

Just an update. A nightmare really. Printer arrived Saturday and I spent all day Saturday and most of Sunday and today trying to get it to print. The glass bed was warped and I just couldn’t get the bed to level or the filament to stick to the bed. Tried it all glue, tape, hair spray. Etc. Item been returned tomorrow. And so the journey begins again. I’m not dispondent and the search goes on. The CR10 I got clearly had issues I tried everything I was able but the down side was the lack of instructions packaged. So watch this space as I try again. I bought mine through Amazon who have been great.
