Expanding the Gaming Universe of Elite Dangerous

Ryan is super excited to talk to John, Oliver and Mel from Spidermind Games about their Elite Dangerous adaptations. The RPG has been doing well on Kickstarter and beyond, but they’ve also made a living card game for attendees to check out.

I loved Elite, played it on an Acorn Electron when it came out, because we couldn’t afford the BBC Micro at the time.

I bought the revamped version when it came out a couple of years ago, its a great game but a time sink that I just can;t fit into daily life at the minute.

My commander is still in his asp explorer though, sitting on a planet about halfway to Colonia. One day I’ll get there.

These spin off games do look great as well.

The new card game looks good, will be interested in seeing this in depth. Great they have expanded the Elite Dangerous universe in this direction as I haven’t had the opportunity to play the RPG (pretty much for said reasons) but would love to try the card game.

The best version was still the very original version on the BBC Micro

Luckily I had a disc drive so the auto dock worked which it didn’t in the tape version. Still amazes me they fitted it into 32k. Every Easter I get the BBC and my analogue joysticks out and play it for 3 days

im always skeptical about card games, only because i like simplicity. this card game seems interesting but ill have to try it to know for sure.

I’m curious how an RPG can handle an infinite universue you are actually encouraged to vist lots of. There must be lots of narrative limits or you need a genious GM to comeup with new stuf all the time.

One of the things I realised from Expo (oddly from talking to one of the lads on the GW stand) was I actually could join an RPG group now. Interesting times ahead.
