Ral Partha Raise The Dead For 18mm Fantasy Warfare
December 30, 2013 by brennon
Ral Partha Europe have been putting together an undead army for use in 18mm warfare and below you can check out a pair of previews for this deathly legion. See what you think of them.
Since I'm picking up an undead army of my own right now I am rather taken with the look of other dead forces and these are very cool looking for their scale. It's a bit of an odd one, 18mm, but I'm sure it works out well!
I particularly like the skeletons with great weapons in this preview, especially the one on the left hand side of the photo. The hood makes it a great model!
Now I have to get back to my 28mm horde of the undead!
Why 18mm? What’s the logic behind that? Does anyone else make that scale? If not, you’d better be making a huge range of the stuff, and in high quality, or you’re doomed to fail.
I don’t know for sure but the biggest game they do is Demonworld

Which admittedly is 15mm – but I’m sure there is thinking behind it lol.

Ok, so what we have is undead giants for a 15mm game or a tribe of undead pygmies in 28mm.
I like them and I’m hoping the scale is 15/18mm as in ‘big’ or ‘heroic’ 15mm scale, can’t see 18mm making much sense otherwise?
It might be a nod as to their size, rather than their scale you are right.

There are probably a couple of 18-20mm minis manufacturers. Alas they are sometime sold as 15mm models.
Blood Dawn Miniatures are a good example of 18-heroic 15mm models :

I own an army if their dwarves and they are not so dwarfish :o)) They are larger than Demonworld, Splintered Light or Chariot models.
Splintered Light has a also a 20 mm range though that may be compatible with 18mm… Otherwise, most of their fantasy minis are sold as 15-18mm models but they’re 15mm, maybe a little larger.
Best way to sort this out would be to have a size comparison picture.
We are calling them 18mm though they are compatible with demonworld, which although a 15mm range is really ‘heroic 15’ and a lot of the minis are closer to 18mm, so we’re just being honest 😉 We will definitely do comparison shots closer to release
