New Company Voodooworx Previews Halflings
December 30, 2013 by brennon
A new company has been showing off the concept art for their upcoming miniatures. Voodooworx look to have a nice twist on the Halfling format so see what you think of their 2014 prospects.
These are some really creepy looking Halflings that have taken on a bit of a gnomish and goblinoid quality to them in the concept art. I love the style which some mighty know as familiar to Avatars of War. Let's hope the sculpting is just as good when these come to getting made.
It should be cool to see an army of Halflings that could actually look after themselves on the battlefield. This could be quite the company to keep an eye on this coming 2014.
What do you think?
They have a strange perception of what a halfling is, anybody else would call them Goblins :/
My thoughts exactly.
And me. A bit to grim and/or dark for hobbitses.
The artwork, if you check out the heads, makes them more gnomish that is readily apparent. I like that they have done something different with the Halfling idea.
they might be going the celtic fay look with redcaps which are a cross of gnome/goblin
Hi guys, thanks for the feedback. To be honest I wanted something completely different to the usual halflings you see from other companies and grim and dark is exactly the look I was after. I will eventually be releasing my own fantasy game based on its own grim, dark fantasy world and I definitely don’t want it to be just another run of the mill fantasy game with bog standard dwarves, halflings, orcs and elves etc. so thought I’d mix it up a little and be a bit different. Cheers Wil 🙂
Loving it @wiltrichs – looking forward to seeing the models!
That sounds good but making them look like goblins isn’t the way to do it, if a model looks like a goblin then its a goblin, can you not make them look more hobbity but still grim and dark? Arcworld’s halflings have taken them away from the chubby happy fellows and they are still chubby but far from happy 🙂 http://www.warploqueminiatures.co.uk/arcworlde/halflings-final.jpg
If you pull it off right, I think it will be a good change of the norm. Making things look fresh is always what I like.
I kind of like it. Makes you wonder where the other “half” came from. I always thought the word “halflings” was wasted on a species that was just small people.
Goblinses, and they don’t taste very nice, do they, Preciouss?
nope, those are goblins alright 😛
My only issue is that they look too much like goblins. So much so that if the article didn’t mention they were halflings I would have though they were making goblin minis.
I like the art style and overall look but my honest opinion the departure from going for traditional halflings is going way too far into greenskin territory. The gaunt faces combined with the pointy ears is what does it.
Not sure it really matters what they call them, they’re cool looking concepts.
The Orcs from Tolkien/Lotr films don’t look like GW’s Orcs, doesn’t really matter does it? One might say GW’s Orcs look more like trolls of classical fantasy.
Call them Halfoblins for all I care!
