UK Games Expo 2018: Saturday Live Blog

It’s Day Two of the UK Games Expo and things are gearing up to be bigger than ever before. There’s tons going on, from massive FFG Tournament games to even more cool goings on in the trader halls, as well as more Live Streams from ourselves.

Justin joins Simon from one of the first board game cafes in the UK: Thirsty Meeples. Bringing more than half of their huge 2500 collection, attendees can hire out board games and play them on the massive table section in Hall 2.

Justin tracks down Alessio from River Horse to request personal updates for the Pacific Rim and Highlander Kickstaters. In addition, Alessio is able to show off the brand new – hot off the press – Tails of Equestria adventure.

Ryan is super excited to talk to John, Oliver and Mel from Spidermind Games about their Elite Dangerous adaptations. The RPG has been doing well on Kickstarter and beyond, but they’ve also made a living card game for attendees to check out.

Justin stops off with Sam from Steamforged to talk about Godtear and Guildball. The Steamforged stand has a beautiful painted Godtear scenario set up showing off the game. Justin also asks for progress on the Resident Evil 2 Kickstarter!

U-Boot was one of our favourite games when we got to play it, and it’s great to see it here at UKGE.

Sam joins Ed from Walrus Games to look at Everdark. They’ve built an amazing rotating board to represent a labyrinthine city where players cooperate to bring light back to the city. Working together…until all of the backstabbings between players occur over who is going to be the next ruler…

The Hellfire Club have turned up to playtest their card game The Old Hellfire Club, a storytelling game where Victorian adventurers go in search of gin.

Sam stops by Herbertz Entertainment to talk about their new game Albedo. Interestingly it’s a deck building game with simultaneous action reveal. This 2nd edition of Albedo is making its debut at UKGE so be sure to check it out at 1-L18.

Hub Games are asking us to make some difficult decisions as they show off their game Holding On, where you take on the role of nurses looking after a patient as you dig into his past.

What kind of approach would you take for this game?

It’s time for some tanks! Battlefront have loads of cool 15mm stuff with them with new stuff on the horizon for Team Yankee and Flames of War, with more tanks on the way!

Sam stops by the Quality Beasts crew to talk about the variety of games they have on the show floor. Dylan shows off some of Quality Beasts’ first forays into RPG adventures, whilst Janna shows off quantified Lives with its important commentary on mass surveillance.

Justin joins Annie at Cosy Dice to see what kind of wares they’ve brought to the expo floor. In addition to a whole host of new dice bags, Annie has brought one of only two UKGE designed bags for one of our lucky commenters to win.

Rotten Games are going mining with a bunch of goblins in their game Off the Rails, a chaotic game of speedy mine carts where you can’t even trust the ground itself.
