On The Table s6 ep9: Mega-Awesome Christmas Episode!

In This Episode
It's that time of year again when the nights get longer and we have to stay indoors because of the terrible weather. That does mean however that we get to play loads more tabletop games!
In this seasonal episode we'll be taking a look at some epic games for the winter months including the aptly named Winter Tales from Fantasy Flight Games and the 'Winter's Comin' meme generator A Game of Thrones: The Board Game.
As well as that we have the frantic Space Cadets which is loads of fun and keeping that star spanning theme, Firestorm Armada from Spartan Games. Let's not forget an Advent packed with Dropzone Commander too!
Oh and some of you might have seen another film in The Hobbit franchise come out last week? Well, Games Workshop have been showing off their sparkly models for The Desolation of Smaug.
We wouldn't be complete without a regular look at two Kickstarters we think are worth a look in.

Ready to win! Always wanted to play this game…
From facebook: Why yes, I do fancy winning a great boardgame.
I’ve played as weapons control several times in Space Cadets and BoW Brennon knows I am so damn awesome at it. *Turns his hand into a gun, and blows on the end of the barrel*
Cannot recommend Space Cadets enough, not one of my games of 2013, but for party atmosphere and group communication, it’s up there
It does sound like quite a fun game. 🙂
Really like to have a go at Dropzone Commander.Reminds me of the Epic 40k I use to play with in my youth. 🙂
Gimme gimme gimme…me want Crimbo pressie goodness!
What am I looking out for? Hanakai Studios. ‘Nuff Said.
Great episode as always!
Not a bad On the table, but way too short, it should be longer we want more XD
I want me some Game Of Thrones
Some nice looking games. Keep being tempted by Dropship Commander. Have played Space Cadets, and it is a great co-op game. The mini games for each station are a lot of fun.
And strangely enough I’d like to win a great boardgame as well. Merry Christmas Beasts of War and best of luck for the coming year.
Still have the Hobbit to see. Also have The worlds end on dvd to watch. Probably watch some Star wars to set the scene for some games of X wing. Games and movies for me at Christmas and not forgetting our family favourite Dr Who xmas special.
Space Cadets looks very interesting, I will look into it, thanks.
My shelves are always in need of another game 🙂
That Gorgos looks amazing.
Humbug.
a another super fine show
Twelve elements of war is great, I’m happy I’m backing this!
It has never occurred to me before how lewd the wobbling arrow over a couple of spheres looks. Sorry if that ruins it for others… cannot unsee?
I think the Hobbit game is a little more than “a bit on the pricey side”. $25 American for a single plastic 28mm model. Enough said. Dropzone is so tempting…many people in my group want to play it but are held back currently by cost. I’m sure one day one of us will give in and that will create an avalanche of sudden sales for Hawk Wargames. I’m currently good right now trying to pad out all of the games I’ve already gotten into this year but there is always next year. Would love to try some Spartan games as… Read more »
Best whishes from holland.
Another Great episode guys, I really love seeing all the new boardgames. So much more variety then when I was a kid, I mean we had a few war and role playing but you could only get certain people to play those but boardgames you could get family or other friends to play. I remember the coolest board games we had was Risk, Stratego, and that one person I knew with Axis and Allies and Fortress America but he would never play them and wouldn’t let anyone borrow them either. Lol, guess I had been holding on to that for… Read more »
low the look of duel fighters, nice big models for all kinds of painting fun and a reasonable price considering the size of the models. think i’ll throw some money that way
Happy X-mas!
The duel fighters mini’s look great but I’m not sold on the whole giving orders at the same time and possibly having your guys run off in opposite directions. I might be misunderstanding it but the way you decide what your fighter is going to do seems strange to me.
Besides, I have my money all tied up in Twelve Elements of War. Looks to be much more my type of game.
