Ted does Tanks!
M3 Lee... or Grant?
So first up is a kit I have to build either and M3 Lee or M3 Grant. As mentioned in the project details I am no historian and I won’t pretend to be, I know that Lee is the American version and Grant the British and I’m looking for some advice on which one to build?
In terms of painting they both have great colour scheme and decals so I’d be happy to do either. What I’m looking for a a bit of background, a good story to go behind the choice, I’m wanting to put this on a base that I can theme around a story linked to the tank so I thought where better to ask than the awesome guys and Beasts of the Tabletop… no wait On the War… no Beats of War!! Yes that’s it

Great looking kit, @teddymademedoit . As far as which one you’d like to build (American original M3 Lee or British variant M3 Grant) … It looks like you may have already “made the choice” to build the Grant? Not sure of the exact kit you have, but it looks like you have a shorter 75mm gun in the hull sponson. I’m sure some American Lee versions had this gun as well, but often they had a slightly longer version of this gun. My man! This is why I knew this would be the right place and people to ask, thank you @Oriskany that’s exactly what I was after. The kit is a nice little Airfix one I picked up for £2.99 at random one day and doesn’t have another option for the hull sponson, just the turret on top has different choices. I think Grant is the I’m going for, like you said there’s a few more choices in the camo to go with but also I think the desert options will be kinder to me, after all this is my first… Read more »

I don’t know which tank that is, but I wouldn’t dare contradict the mighty @oriskany . I do want to say that the Cat Tank Meme is AMAZING. I personally am a dog person, maybe because I could so see a cat doing that.

I also am very much a dog person (although somehow ended up with a cat :/ ) and you are absolutely right, a cat would definetly do that!

(PS. in the interest of fairness I also searched for Theresa May cat, only when I started typing P U S… needless to say it went very wrong indeed 🙁 🙁 some things just can’t be unseen)

Well IRC the Brits did have a Grant or 2 in Italy ( command tanks ) , so that might give you a different idea for a diorama . The Australians used the Lee against the Japanese right up till the end of the war . They did modify it a bit , lots of extra track and plate as armor against those suicide anti tank guys and they got rid of the mg turret up top . And for some reason , one of the Lee versions , M3A5 was called the Grant 2 by the Brits
