T-60 Power Armour Cosplay Fallout 4

About the Project
Back in October 2017, I decided to give myself a real challenge. I love Fallout 4 and have put far too much of my time into that game! I dabble in cosplay and some of you will have seen the Pipe Rifle I made before. That was my gateway drug into prop building. So I wanted to do something BIG! not just big... but BIG. And what more awesome way to ruin my free time and give me the longest period of stress I have ever had than to build a suit of Power Armour from Fallout 4? I bought some paper-craft templates from a great guy on Etsy and started to learn about crafting armour and costumes using EVA foam (the floor mates you can buy at your local DIY store.) At this point, Justin got interested and told me that since I was building one, we could both build two and rock up to the local con in 2018 looking badass! How could I say no?! So, here it is, our project. I hope you enjoy.

This Project is Completed
The Beginning
From the 3D files (Pepakura Viewer used to view papercraft template images) I print the pages for the area I wish to make (in this case the Biceps) trace onto the EVA foam sheet, cut out the part, seal the foam with a heat gun which then allows me to begin curving the part and then glue using Contact cement.
Closing in on a full test fit.
More parts of the armour coming together, including the vinyl for the chest symbol, modifying the shoulders to be closed off which helps add “weight” to them as well as all the priming and basic panting done ready for weathering.
TEST FIT TIME!
I finally finished the painting and weathering and got to try everything on. There was a problem with how the shoulders sit so that was something to look into. You also get a look at how Justins suit is coming along. He’s under pressure now to finish but I think he will get there.
COMPLETION
As some of you will have seen. The vlog represents the completion point for my suit. I have one more laser rifle to build and paint, then its on to helping justin finish his. At the time of writing this we are just over one week away. Wish us luck and I will update this again with some pics of us at Q-Con Belfast 🙂
The Con. Project completion.
What a day! Incredible reactions from everybody who saw us. It was hot, uncomfortable and now feeling the effects of dehydration. But! We went away with “Best group” in the Cosplay contest and I could not be happier. We met some really cool people. Overall the experience of rocking up to Q-Con after the months of work and worry really paid itself back in buckets. Time for rest and consolidate all the lessons learned on the way before I dare embark on whatever project I move on to next.
