Godzilla 2014 Trailer Emerges & It’s Looking Ace!
December 11, 2013 by brennon
Yesterday saw the release of an awesome trailer for the Godzilla film coming in 2014, more specifically May. See what you think of this rather brilliant looking reboot and there isn't a Jamiroquai in sight.
The beginning scene reminded me of the 'Hell Jumpers' from Reign of Fire, catching Dragons while flying through the air. Admittedly this time around they have rather bigger prey and Godzilla himself is looking utterly awesome.
I'll be interested to see how this develops and how much of the monster we really see. I'd assume we're going to see a few interlinking story lines following the soldiers and scientists struggling in the wake of his arrival.
Check out the trailer and drop your thoughts below.
Go for it!
Was always excited for this but, after this trailer it has deffo shot to the top of my ‘must watch’ list for 2014.
Ah-ha! I knew I’d find a use for all those US Army and USMC figures I have in my collection! Now all I need is a giant dinosaur toy.
To the kids rooms!
If it doesn’t look like a man in a onesie it ain’t Godzilla! 😛
It looks good. Think I would like to see,and also makes me wanna play King of Tokyo.
Makes me want to arrange all my tinned goods and cereal boxes on the floor, bang on my green onsie and get REPTAR with it!
RWAAAAAAAR!!!

Oh yes. Looks like Godzilla, makes the right noise, hope they can rework the classic theme tune in there too.
Will Godzuki be in it? Oh please say yes! That little scamp!
If it doesn’t have Godzilla fighting other giant monsters, space aliens, or even better, giant monsters in space who are controlled by space aliens, then it’s not worth getting out of bed for. Unless Godzilla does a dance, I’d make an exception for that.
Godzilla:The Musical
it’ll be a good monster movie, but without a man in a rubber suit, it’s not a godzilla. It’s just another vaguely godzilla-like monster. Seriously, some things belong to their time and should not be cashed-in on at all cost. Let the big lizard rest finally, and invent some good monsters yourself, Hollywood.
Oh wait, I forgot, there’s not two creative cells left in all of hollywood to rub together.
Warner Bros…. There goes my enthusiasm.
STOMP>>>STOMP>>>>STOMP>>>RWAAAAAAARR!!!
eeeeeh… What’s up doc?
My interest just got stronger! lol
The Godzilla problem is very much like the Hulk problem. Just as “Hulk gets angry and smashes things up” is dull as dishwater and gets old very quickly, “Godzilla shows up and stomps on city” is every bit as much. Both brands are at their best when they break out of that core concept. There’s sufficiently little in that trailer to tip exactly what the film is about, but it certainly looks like it’s Godzilla stomping on a city. Here’s hoping it’s not.
Apparently the rumour noise on this movie is that Godzilla is the initial threat but then has to team up with humanity to face another monster. So there is the possibility of Kaiju on Kaiju action! If that’s the direction they take, I doubt it will be the king of Kaiju KING GHIDORAH but it could maybe be Mothra, Rodan or Gamera but in a different form.
Oh! I hope it’s Mothra!
Hopefully that’ll be the case. I don’t expect it to be able to capture what made the Japanese movies so watchable, but if it manages to be meet them halfway and be more than a generic cookie cutter US studio movie then could get my cinema dollars.
Meh.
I think we can already see by its tone that its not going to be another run of the mill US blockbuster remake. Just from the trailer you can see there is an interesting visual palette and motifs in play. The use of the colour red in the Halo jump being repeated in the behind the air locker door image with Juliette Binoche for example. The British director Gareth Edwards, who directed the excellent MONSTERS, said he will be paying homage to the original TOHO classic by keeping its nods to atomic terror and ‘Godzilla as a metaphor for God’s… Read more »
Let’s hope so. The guy who did the sublime Pan’s Labyrinth is responsible for the war crime that is Pacific Rim.
The Wikipedia movie synopsis from Legendary Pictures….
“An epic rebirth to Toho’s iconic Godzilla, this spectacular adventure pits the world’s most famous monster against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity’s scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence”
Note the phrase ‘pits the world’s most famous monster against malevolent creatures’. Oh yes.
At the end of the day, Mr. G is on our side. He may be a bit clumsy and stomp Tokyo occasionally, but when monsters and aliens come you know who to call… Despite the first movie, the Godzilla franchise is really about monsters bashing each other. Any film that doesn’t get it, is not really a Godzilla movie. Old superhero movies tended to suffer from that same problem. I guess the studios thought one superdude was all the audience could handle or maybe they didn’t have the effects budget for more supers, but typically they neglected to include supervillains… Read more »
