You’ve no doubt seen it, but what does Darrell think of this massive Goblin monstrosity? Lets find out as he delves into the ins-and-outs of his new Goblin spider-buddy.

Looting in 3…2…1…
I say make it smaller. Less chance to kill it. I think making it to fit on a chariot base would have been just fine.
That said I ain’t getting one becouse when I build my orc and goblins army i’m just having orcs.
I looked at them in Warhammer World and couldn’t stop thinking ‘TERVIGON!!!!’ lol
If you really do not like it, may I adopt it as I have Horror Photo shoot planned and it would look good minus the goblins as a Prop and probably scare the Model 🙂
I think the model looks great although I have to agree that it should fit on the base. The front legs could be up in the air, like when spiders rear up, so as they don’t effect gameplay.
It is brutal in combat. At my local gaming store all the Skaven players hate it and started to claim it was over priced next to the abomination. Three games latter the Arachnarok stood champion over the abomination. The venom special attack is just insane and even regeneration rolls could not save the abomination.
Don’t especially like Darrel since some unecessay comments during the “Rainbow marines” videos. But gotta support him here, it’s really stupid to make it bigger than the base. How are you gonna line up your 40+ support troops next to it? or when in combat and its flanked, those legs are gonna make it really hard to align enemy troops. Big, BIG thumb up for Darrel and his honest uncensored opinion!
Been playing this game on and off for almost 20 years and each new model just gets bigger and bigger, soon they will be bigger than my 1 year olds toys. Everything gets bigger apart from the playing field wich is smaller than in the good old 8*4 days.
Agreed!
Big Tables really need to make a come back!
Awsome, one of GW’s best ever models. BUt I wont be getting one any time soon as I know I’ll never have time to paint something that big.. my Giants been on the go for over a year now..
i agree derrall it is to large for the base and the stiff on top is a b===h to work on it . i bought two one to work as a tervegon and one to make for my wife army of orks . I’m using it as a sqigith . its a grate model but suck in a lot of places .
i’ve seen arachnaroch spider munch through the entire high elf army from the island of blood in 2 turns (except the mage, he was dead before thta); it caused the prince to fail his panic test and flee off the board!!!
I’ve always loved Forest Goblins because of the tribal/native look, but sadly I’m not much of a spider fan so that kinda made this model a bit iffy for me from the start. Seeing it on that tiny base is pretty rediculous and the construct on top just looking at how many small parts go to make it I’m not at all surprised it is a pain in the arse to put together. Of course Greenskin players are nothing if not creative, so I won’t be at all surprised when there are hundreds of Giant Ants, Lizards with wooden shacks… Read more »
I don’t play O&G (yet?…dundundunn), but I picked one up a little cheap just for its coolness factor. Even if I never play O&G, it’ll be a great piece on the display shelf (along with my future Giant, Stormraven and other big/cool things that I’ll never use, but look great).
I like big monsters for fantasy – if you want to play rank and file then become a historical wargamer. This is a great looking monster and has a monster stat line to match. It should fit on the base. I’d be interested to see if anyone can make it stand taller and fit better on the base. I thoughts are that monsters should be big, if that makes them easier to hit then so be it. One thing I hate about the necron tomb spider is that it’s meant to be a monsterous creature but is not much taller… Read more »
Im often harsh on GW these days (and rightly so!) but i gotta admit this is a really great kit.
Im usually 40k all the way but am now considering Fantasy for my next army. I had planned on Grey Knights until i saw the price and will reserve judgement on Dark Eldar until i see the wracks, grotesques and homunculus releases but Fantasy and Orks & Goblins in particular have peaked my interest with this terrific kit. Plus, me love spiders.
If you look on the GW blog today http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/blogPost.jsp?aId=15900030a
Theres a dude Spider that fits on the base without all the overhang…or not as much anyway
Yeah I think its a great kit…Darrell perhaps overdid it since the model itself is amazing in terms of detail and sculpt, but he has a very good point. I think the model itself is one of the best looking things GW has produced for fantasy in a while even though they’ve made other good stuff.
Pretty much just change the front legs then it wouldn’t be that bad, although the other legs are near the edge they’d still be on or above it pretty much.
Ork battlewagon anyone?
Fantastic figure but the base madness is just stupid!!
Make a bigger base or make the pose fit the base size required. I would use it as a super Shelob figure or as a nice creepie figure for the Aphobes
Well I like it, but I am thinking it is going in my 40k Ork army. Maybe a metal platform on top with big shootas and a Super Kill Kannon? With that it would make a nice counts as Battlewagon!
I was thinking along those lines.
Plus I think the legs count a as deffrolla ;D
I kinda agree with Darrell on the size issue. As a display piece it is great… as a gaming piece it could use some redesign… you could look at it as a modelling challenge. It’s size could make it easier to adjust.. if you’re good enough with the greenstuff.
love the review, Darrell. I owe you a pint or two
I had no problem what so ever getting the spider on its base. It even says in the instructions to be careful dry-fitting the pieces before gluing.
I haven’t decided what to mount on it, and the part that I’ve found hard to build and fit is the Howdah to the spiders back.
