Get Started In Great Escape Games’ 1914 With Infantry Brigades
April 25, 2018 by brennon
If you want to get stuck into World War I wargaming, especially around the start of the war, then Great Escape Games has an awesome game for you to try out called 1914. Infantry Brigades were recently released as well to make entry into this game even easier.
All of the models within these sets (like the British one above) are at 12mm and allow you to build up a good fighting force for their game. The focus at this point of World War I was still on moving infantry, big field guns and of course, cavalry charges. For example, you can see the massed ranks of cavalry here in the German force.
As well as the British and the Germans we also have the French...
...and the Belgians who would have been in the fierce fighting during this period. In an age before the trench warfare that you're used to seeing on the tabletop, this gives you a new take on World War I.
You can also watch an interview we did with Great Escape games above which goes into a little more detail about the game and why they wanted to set it around 1914.
Will you be checking this out?

Isn’t the new version of Epic/Adeptus Titanicus rumoured to be in 12mm? If so I can see the Germans here being useful for people wanting to do a DKoK army. 😉
The new AT will be 8mm if it ever happens
Could’ve sworn I heard 12mm, but that was so long ago and my memory’s so poor I’ve probably just misremembered what I read.
If you click through to the website, the products are clearly named as 12mm.
A nice starter set bundle is up, with options for the different nationalities and command tokens.
@coxjul: I was talking about the new Epic/AT from GW.
That looks really awesome, it’s kinda what I’m hoping the new land based dystopian wars becomes, and that was such a nice table, may have to pick me up some
It’s a beautiful board and the miniature look really nice too. I hadn’t seen this video in your Salute coverage yet, so thanks for highlighting it. I’m one of those gamers put off WWI gaming by the images of trench warfare, even though I know that there was a lot more to the war than that.
it’s nice to see some WW1 infantry.
Love this stuff, thanks for the preview.
A good book about the events leading up to WWI and the first months of movements is The Guns of August by Barbara W. Tuchman. I highly recommend this read
Great stuff again from a great company. Been looking for a good WWI game for some time. Can’t wait to get my hands on this.
