1914 - Battling At The Start Of WWI With Great Escape Games
We stopped in with Great Escape Games to find out about their new game which is 1914! This great game scales down and is a bit of a departure from their regular 28mm skirmish games.
Comment To Win - 1914 Rulebook
Will you be delving into this new game and giving it a go as an alternative WWI ruleset?
sean bean works for great escape games now ?
Apparently he did but there was an accident…… 🙂
This looks interesting
Sounds like a different take on ww1 gaming, though I immediately started thinking about tripods & heat rays too
1914 looks interesting, hope to see more of it on the site.
I hope they come out with a 1915-1918 book at some point, I not as interested in the early states of WW1 even if they did have funny helmets and lance-armed cavalry!
The Chicago Way games looks very interesting!
That looks interesting.
1914 looks interesting, must admit does seem a bit of a strange game for them to make. After watching the video and listening I’m quite sold on it.
1914 is something I am extremely interested in… I love that they’re focussing on those first few months before they became more entrenched.
Somehow my Grandfather was there day 1 on a horse and survived to the end (no – he wasn’t an officer, nor aon a horse for long) or I wouldn’t be here.
main form of motive power in ww1 was the horse! Was your Grandfather in the ASC, Artillery, AOC or Cavalry?
Hmm worth checking out! Thanks for sharing
Got to get a copy of 1914 and try out cavalry against machine guns. I hope it scales okay to 15mm since that’s what I’ve been collecting since August 2014.
Cavalry is one of my favourite units, it’s so bad they got out of the game after ww2 🙁
These are cool
From the photos it looks like the base is more important rather than the number or scale of figures on them
Great many historical games use a similar system. Probably because historical minis greatly vary in size and scale
I am presuming the figures are by Kallistra. They look like their ranges
Amazing miniatures
I am tempted if I read this right and each stand is a battalion
Interesting, I’ll have to do some research, there’s a bit of a shortage of WW1 games
Interesting thing is that while I like the visuals of WW1, I never played any WW1 games
I guess there is nothing to stop you using it for the Eastern Front and the Middle East where the conflict said a lot more traditional in terms of manouver
I like the look of this. I’ve wanted to game WWI but have found the rules I’ve tried to be quite poor. I’ll have to have a look at 1914
Opening Moves by John Keegan us an excellent read
Excellent, more 1914 and early ww1 stuff is always good! I presume this scales up or down in size as well as its main 12mm form?
40K uses many WW1 concepts, it’s interesting there are practically no WW1 games I know of (besides this one, of course 🙂 )
I think this is really a great time period. Iwill have to look up that bbc series now.
Probably the most productive period for WWI gaming
