Your Star Wars: Legion Projects!
April 8, 2018 by brennon
We've been talking about Star Wars: Legion a lot here on Beasts Of War and you guys seem to be getting into it as well! With that in mind, we've collated together some of your projects so that we can show off what you've been doing and see the variation in themes and techniques.
Let's dive into the Hobby & Painting Forum and WAYPN Thread to find out what you've been doing.
sotf
The thing that really caught our eye with sotf's work was the replacement of the bases for these models. The more industrial look works very well for an urban environment and there was still an effort made to show the facing markings for the Speeder Bikes too.
The grittier look to the Stormtroopers was also one that really caught my eye. The chipping and damage on their armour show off a unit of Stormtroopers who have been through the ringer!
sundancer
sundancer had also been getting stuck in as you can see by the mass of models that have filled his painting table. His version of Darth Vader was looking particularly awesome and the way the black had been painted here really stood out to us.
Additionally, you'll note that there was a lot of work going into the Stormtroopers. Keeping them all looking uniform, the big thing for use was the helpful rings of colour around the bases to signify which unit they fight for.
suetoniuspaullinus
suetoniuspaullinus always impresses us with the painting he does and the work on Star Wars: Legion was no exception. There is a more realistic feel to the models that he paints and they come out looking superb.
Even his work on Luke Skywalker caught our eye. The whole palette that he works with is a little different from other people but it's nice to see and gives the characters a very artistic quality.
tonysilvey
tonysilvey did a fantastic job on his version of Darth Vader. The red of the lightsabre really stood out to us and the extra detail work across his suit added to the model, taking it up from just plain black. Subtle use of grey to do some additional highlighting across the model was key to making it pop.
hairybrains
Looking ahead to some of the expansion products for the range we also have hairybrains and his Airspeeder. This very much struck us with the retro vibe! The way the colours have been painted in this piece made it a very vibrant piece and you'd not miss this as it was flying around the battlefield.
erion
erion went one step further with the paint scheme customisation of the models for his Stromtroopers with those red markings on the side. As Lance pointed out on the Hobby Hangout, it would be a good way to remember which ones were yours if they all clattered onto the floor at a tournament!
We loved the look of his AT-RT walker as well here for the Rebels. There was plenty of additional subtle detail work done to the model which made it stand out to us.
As well as these posts within the main WAYPN Thread we also wanted to highlight two Hobby Threads where the mass of Star Wars: Legion has been coming together, showing us steps in the process too on occasion.
agis' Hobby Thread
agis, for example, has been putting his considerably awesome painting brain to work on some of the Rebels and they have been coming out very nicely. As well as working through Star Wars: Legion he's been looking towards his Imperial Assault collection as well.
He is even looking towards additional conversion work to add more alien lifeforms into the mix for his Legion force which is neat indeed.
collins' Hobby Thread
You will have seen his work already as part of the Community Spotlight but we wanted to highlight the thread by collins again as he has been doing some amazing work on his models.
The mass of his models have been finished from the Core Set and now he is turning his attention to the expansions including the Airspeeder.
This is looking superb and we really liked the way that the lines in the base have been maintained as well as the little touches across the hull of this fighting craft. The windows for example looked awesome, even with those little touches to the corners.
Have you been enjoying diving into Star Wars: Legion?

Looking awesome!
Must get started on mine, just have other projects that are nearing completion.
I was stuck into building the Battlekiwi terrain. And built myself an airbrush both. Will stars with the models sometime later. I am waiting for the acrylic sticks I ordered to replace lightsabers.
Looking very nice, got the core set yesterday, and have started painting today, great idea with the coloured bases, I’m going to steal that idea.
I’m tempted to get Legions but I know I shouldn’t as I already have too many games to paint minis for….so I’m being good, even though there’s plenty of temptation to persuade me into buying. It’s a good job I’m not going to Salute this year.
Lots of very lovely work there 😀 . I’ll definitely be using different colours on the bases like @sundancer has.
Nice work, all. Agis’ rebels are top notch.
Uh… look mom, I’m on the telly…. 😉
I will like this opportunity to thank the BOW team of not bursting but nuking my belief that I was a reasonably good model painter, I would say ill stick to my day job but that’s painting (spray-painting) Lol.
stunning work everyone.
Fantastic work – all of it !! 🙂
Great work!
Nice work guys
Despite already having plenty in my 30/40k pile to paint….. my Legion core set arrived earlier…. ah well! 🙂
Just put my core, speeder and ATST together. This has given me inspiration
