Privateer Press Look Ahead To More Seafaring Cryxians!
April 3, 2018 by brennon
Some more seafaring and decidedly dangerous Cryx characters and units have been added into the mix for later in April by Privateer Press. We'll kick off with these new Warmachine characters and Axiara Wraithblade.
"Admiral Axiara Wraithblade is one of the most feared women on the Meredius and oversees countless pirate flotillas from her flagship, the Morbid Angel. Wraithblade earned her moniker from the blood-consecrated sword Anathema she wields. The weapon is a relic of Satyx, purified by blood priestesses in a ritual of carnage to infuse it with occult power.
When she cuts enemies down by its edge, the spilt blood allows her to become as insubstantial as smoke, letting her bypass enemy defences to close on her chosen foe."
I do like the look of her, as I have done for the rest of the Satyxis. The purposeful stride is important for a character I feel and I think the bandana across her mouth speaks to her dangerous intent.
Keeping up with the idea of gunslingers and badass female characters we also have Severa Blacktide here.
"Found in the maelstrom of battle, her laughter punctuated by the crack of her pistols as she sows chaos and death, Severa Blacktide is a legendary Satyxis warrior. Blacktide is the finest Satyxis gunslinger alive and is counted among the premier gun mages in western Immoren. Each bullet through a rival gun mage’s skull or heart serves as another reminder that she has yet to meet her equal and perhaps never will."
You could already imagine both of these ladies striding across the deck of their ships, guns firing into a howling gale as they cut down Cygnarian soldiers with ease.
Sorcery, Cannons & Marauders
As well as these new Solo Characters for Cryx we also turn out attention towards a few more units as well. The first of these is the Scharde Dirge Seers.
"Among those in the Scharde Islands, some humans possess the gift of sorcery, kindled and enhanced by Toruk’s blight. Covens of these women may join the Cryxian pirate fleets, guided by inscrutable omens. Enthralled by the thrumming of blight in their flesh and blood, they indulge in feats of violence, showering in the blood of sacrifices while screaming prayers to the Dragonfather.
Some captains feed a coven a steady supply of victims, hoping that amid tortured screams, portents of their future will be revealed."
I'm getting a sense of the Three Witches from this coven. I love how they have that seductive appeal worked into their sculpts and then only at the last moment to you notice their clawed hands, ready to rip and tear into your flesh.
Heaving mighty guns into line to blast apart your foes we also have the Black Ogrun Smog Belchers.
"Smog belchers are black ogrun who wield heavy culverin-style cannons. Smog belcher weapons are crafted by skilled ironmongers, black ogrun metalsmiths who fuse their craft with rituals of bloodletting and dark magic. From the deck of a Cryxian vessel, smog belchers lay down a barrage of fire, filling the air with a lingering cloud of corrupting ash that rots flesh and blisters the lungs of anyone who breathes it."
While your melee fighters charge into battle and your spellcasters wield powerful magic, the Black Ogrun Smog Belchers are going to be laying down some heavy fire on your enemies to keep them in place. I'm sure they could break a Warjack or two as well with those cannons.
Last but not least we have the Blighted Trollkin Marauders. I really like Trollbloods as a whole and it's awesome to see this twisted and blighted design for them.
"Caring little for their own safety, blighted trollkin marauders swing braziers on long chains that blaze with fire fed by rendered body fat and whale oil. Marauders delight in setting fire to homes in the coastal communities they raid, waiting for the fleeing victims within to rush headlong into their waiting arms.
They particularly enjoy the first bite of living flesh that has been blackened and blistered by their torches, and they find the smell of burning meat exquisite."
They are a wild and dangerous looking unit and I like that the fire adds a sense of dynamism to their collection. I think I would go with balefire for their weapons however as it seems to fit more with the Cryxian aesthetic.
What do you make of their releases coming later in April?
"You could already imagine both of these ladies striding across the deck of their ships, guns firing into a howling gale as they cut down Cygnarian soldiers with ease..."
Love the Black Ogryn … if I was ever going to go Cryx this would be the theme I’d use…..a lot more fun than Dragon-Undead
Those are really good.
All I can think when looking at the Marauders is “ooh, lots of things that can bend and break.” And storage headaches.
Cryx are the nastiest wargame bad guys I know of. Their new minis are superb.
Like those marauders, in fact I like them all bar the weird fingered seers. Plus Prime 4 just arrived so I can dig into the theme with that 🙂
Yes mate , mine just arrived too. Two themed forces inside was a nice surprise. I quite like the new No Quarter Prime, it ‘ll be interesting to see what they do with it after Issue 6.
It really is a cracking publication, Not read yet, after I got in from gaming, posted some playtest stuff for Godtear I fell asleep rather rapidly.
Yeah I am imagining a lot of crucible guard stuff, Man’o’war soon 🙂
I like the seers
