Beyond The Gates Of Antares Unboxing: Isorian Combat Drone
April 13, 2018 by dignity
Today we open up a new miniature from Beyond the Gates of Antares by Warlord Games, looking at the new combat drone from the Isorian Faction.
We look specifically at the Mahran Vesh MV5 Combat Drone for the Isorian faction and discuss the various painting styles you can apply to it. The evolutionary trace of the Isorians can be mapped back to their human roots in contrast to other factions of Antares and this can be seen in their aesthetic style.
What do you think of the Sci-Fi look of this combat drone in contrast to the other factions?

Not sure about that paint-job… Other than that, a decent alien-ish and giger-esque ship.
Giger-esque is spot on. That’s the feel I get from it too. I could be tempted to buy this, just to paint it.
Kinda looks like a very Alien scorpion. Mmm, go for an almost entirely jet black with subtle light grey edge highlighting, pick out the grills with a reddish-purple with a very slight glow effect/bright highlights. for the weapons, an off-white bone/ceramic scheme with dark purple with a red glow effect, pick out the eye-spots/sensors with deep glossy bright red. the idea being, to create the impression of a predatory animal stalking its prey rather than a machine. Really like the aesthetic of the Isorians, whilst I currently, don’t collect Beyond the Gates of Antares it would either be these guys… Read more »
A great organic looking ship to fit that type of army.
Talon from farscape Was the ship That comes to mind when its working.
Absolutely agree with @dignity on the Isorians’ design being very intriguing. Also that they’ve been / are (?) human but took a very unfamiliar direction in technological evolution. Come to think of it, remember the Therians of AT-43? Very similar but distinctly different result. …which leads right to your question: I like all three kinds for SciFi human styles – hard industrial, sleek & sly and ‘technorganic’ (or ‘biocanical’?). Paintwise all sorts of schemes could look very cool here, I think. E.g. you could have terriffic laquered looks with organic patterns, either muddy as well as in very colourful tones… Read more »
Really like what they have done with the isorians, I think I’d keep the orange glow and maybe play with some greenstuff world colour shift metallics maybe the martian red
I didn’t realise this was a resin kit, which is a little bit of a shame. Still, it’s really nice and I’ll get one at some point.
