Cryx Unleash Bloodthirsty Bane Riders Onto The Battlefield
November 14, 2013 by brennon
Hordes isn't the only game from Privateer Press that is getting some love today. Cryx and Warmachine are also seeing some new models on the way with the deadly looking Bane Riders charging onto the battlefield.
"Bane riders are chosen from among the most vicious and spiteful of bane spirits, their minds intact enough to be given positions of prominence among the armies of the Dragonfather. Astride their undead mounts, these malicious thralls can become wraith-like to move through trees and buildings until the moment they strike with their bane blades to cut down enemies their leader has marked with unholy curses."
Now those are some good looking riders. I have had a problem, like most of you, with the horses from Privateer Press in the past but these ones actually look pretty epic. Again you can see that they have duped the models though, despite them changing the angle to appear like they aren't.
They might be plastic but it appears like they go together in a very definitive way. Not always a bad thing if you are interested in just getting them onto the table but it's always nice to have a bit of customisation.
What do you think?
no one buy them, don’t want to face them EVER!!!
seriously they look nice just dreading what they will give to the Cryx force.
Meh.
I agree, meh. PP have to up their game in minis design and production. Too many new models show little originality.
PP didn’t try to reinvent the wheel with these. They look like most other undead cavalry out there. At least the execution of the models looks nice.
I really hope the factory making these plastics has hit it’s stride and learned how to manage mold lines better.
it occurred to me earlier that the repeat sculpts are to make it clear whos the units leader as there is always a separate sculpt set aside for it… would definitely explain the clockwork angles only having 2 sculpts… thoughts?
No, it’s just lazy model making. Especially when its only 3 models and you still get a double.
then how differentiate between leader and grunts bearing in mind most gamers wont paint the models so paint can’t be used to differentiate? i’d personally prefer more poses but i can see a practical reason (as well as saving on costs in design and on the molds) for why they do so many double or triples of a pose in a box
Grey armies are lazy gaming.
I went for a tank green for my Cyrx rather than grey. That said you can paint them any colour you wish but depicting Undead armies always limits the pallet sadly. Would be interested in any hints you would give to painting this army though.
certainly agree with that i lament my grey models and i’m getting down with painting all my stuff adopting a “play it painted” philosophy
So from the description it looks like they might have some kind of incorporeal rule, or ghost walk?… mmmm these with Dargon Wrath.. is that enough to make you sweat Kev??
Between these and the plastic bane thralls at a much more affordable price than the plastic.. everyone can have Moar Banes !
The rules were spoiled at Warmachine Weekend. They have reach but only brutal charge rather than weapon master. They have curse but not dark shroud. As expected, they have ghostly as well.
I play cryx I would of liked both dark shroud and weapon master it seems they have been nerfed to some degree but hey the models look great and can be useful for jamming up enemy models til your big guns get into position for the tear down 🙂
They can’t spike damage as high as thralls or knights but a mat 11, pow 15, ghostly charge with up to 15″ threat with Wrathe is not bad at all. I wouldn’t call them nerfed but PP painted themselves into a corner with some of the existing cryx infantry being as strong as it is.
Terrible models.
Blech. Nope from me.
