OOh, great axe and regular axe troops look like really nice crisp plastic kits! +1
Definitly miles better then the monkey looking ones from a certain other company … and I haven’t even compared prices yet …
I’m afraid to say that there was a recent price adjustment on Orc Ax. After reviewing their prices versus costs of production Mantic felt it neccesary to make a change to their pricing. Before the review Orc Ax were £25 for 30. After the review they are now £25 for 40.
Personally the one thing I will never forgive GW for is ruining orcs. I can remember 30 years ago when orcs came in all shapes and sizes from different manufacturers and you could paint them whatever colour you want. Now, pretty much all orcs look a lot like GW ones and are green. So my big criticism of Mantic’s orcs is that they look too much like GW orcs.
I’ve pretty much given up on fantasy because I don’t like GW’s version of fantasy and it’s becoming increasingly difficult to find companies doing something that actually looks different.
Usually people say they look too much like GW’s orcs from 30 years ago. 🙂
Remove the “too” from the above and that’s my opinion on them. Reckon they’d go quite well with older orcs Have seen some GW LotR orcs in Mantic orc armies too (as sniffs) and they don’t look completely ridiculous.
I’m actually quite fond of these, and have roughly 300 of them in my orc horde, as command groups and elite units, with about three times as many EM4 figures for bulk troops. I bought the mantic orcs precisely because they don’t have that cartoony GW look to them. The figures are robust, bigger than a 28mm human, and somewhat pose-able, but with fewer options than you might find in a box of GW stuff. Bits from elsewhere certainly help individualize them. I’m hoping for half a dozen chariots in my stocking; I’ve been very good this year. GW fantasy… Read more »
It’s hard not to like these little fellows, I am fast becoming a big fan of Kings of War and I’m putting together a larg undead army. Mantic actively encourage gamers to kit bash their figures and applaud new, inivitive ideas. You’ll certainly not be hung, drawn and quartered for fielding Mantic Army figures with bits from other company’s. They even acknowledge the existence of other wargaming company’s, unlike another Nottingham firm I can think of…lol
Wargames Factory’s Orc’s are quite a bit different than the GW type. They’re based on Angus McBride’s illustrations of orcs and they’re what I’m building my orc and goblin army around.
I’ve bought a box of those as well, but I found them far too small, and I wasn’t fond of the heads and helmets. They were reminiscent of Asian straw hats and WWII German helmets. The torsos, supposedly revolutionary as they can be turned to front or back, are simply too ambiguous to identify a front or back… hardly revolutionary. They went into my bits box, albeit in a place of honour.
Price is right for WF stuff: I’ve bought their Viking and Saxon figures for bulk Dark Ages troops, and I’m more than happy with them.
Overall pretty nice looking. Not so keen on the shields and Axe Heads though, but I can easily give them a swap. I do like the spears though.
MOAR TROLLS! Goodonyer Mantic.
Oh no, more awesomeness. I’ll never get my undead army finished if you keep bringing out stuff like this! Amazing value for money guys. The quality of your figures is superb.
Needles 8)
I told you guys that they make the best orc models out there…
Ya I’m getting some more just to paint up, the detail is incredible on them the video only gives limited pop you need to see them in front of you.
I’m not typically an Orc fan, but these look great!
Looks like a great kit. Maybe I really should build an orc army next year…
I have shed loads of Mantic models after the kick starter campaign for Kings of War. Apart from the Basileans which seem like a misstep, I love their stuff. And seeing this just makes me want some orcs!
That’s a lot of kit in one box
