Privateer Press Announce The Return Of Monsterpocalypse
March 9, 2018 by brennon
Privateer Press has announced the return of the rather smashing game, Monsterpocalypse. You can expect it to hit in Autumn of this year with an interesting new twist.
The game sees you either taking up the side of G.U.A.R.D or the Planet Eaters as they battle for Earth with mighty mechs and monsters going up against each other with support from tanks and other smaller units too.
The big twist this time around is that the models won't be pre-painted. YOU will be getting a chance to put whatever scheme you want down on these awesome looking models this time around.
"For the revitalized Monsterpocalypse, we went back to the classic Factions and characters and updated their designs before producing all-new sculpts. By producing the miniatures as hobby models that you get to assemble, paint, and customize, we’re able to manufacture them in our own factory, which allows us to add a ton more detail to the figures that we weren’t able to create when the figures were in pre-painted plastic.
They’re also quite a bit bigger and chunkier than the originals, which is going to make them even more fun to paint."
Any chance for massive monsters to clash with hulking robots and mechs on the tabletop is one that I will gladly take up. Privateer Press has also come on leaps and bounds with their sculpting since Monsterpocalypse was last out so you could expect some very nice looking models in the line-up this time.
For now, you'll have to make do with these teaser images from the trailer and get your butts in gear for more announcements by Privateer Press over the coming months as to where this project is going. We loved this though...
"Soon after the release of the game will be our first in-store Organized Play events, for which we’ve created variant designs of some of the buildings to serve as in-game-usable trophies for the winners. And while the starters will include pop-up cardboard buildings to get your city started, a full range of buildings—just as detailed as the monsters—will follow, so you can erect your own beautiful skyline…and then knock it down as often as you like."
Are you a Monsterpocalypse fan?

YES YES YES
GREAT, but will be collectible, or we will be able to buy them in blisters? Will be a new edition for the boardgame, or an wargame?
It’s not collectible.
What I gleaned from the press release: Same: Still uses a dice pool. Still get power dice to do cool shit with your monster. Still play on a map grid with control points, etc. Different: No longer Collectible/prepainted. Resin and Metal Figures. Monsters in Boxes. Units in Blisters. All new sculpts. Unit cards instead of lots of little icons on unit bases. Cardboard buildings in starters. Resin buildings sold separately. Agendas each contain 3 factions that can be mix/matched in multi-monster battles. Monsterpocalypse is easily my favorite thing Privateer Press ever did. It was mainly killed by virtue of it… Read more »
Didn’t knew about this game, now I’m very VERY interested 😀
But will they also make Voltron in the updated version?
Loved Monsterpocalypse. Still have boxes of the old stuff! Very happy to see it’s return.
Looks likes good monster mash game
Nice. Hopefully we will be able to use our old minis cos i’ve got a big box of them. Don’t want to have to re-buy everything to be able to play. I’ll happily buy a new rulebook or cards though.
It says this on the Monsterpocalypse (monsterpocalypse.com) site:
Can I use my original Monsterpocalypse figures in the new game?
Due to the difference in scale, original Monsterpocalypse figures will not work in the new game. All official Monsterpocalypse tournaments and events will require players to use the new hobby models for play.
That’s what PP say. Naturally they want to sell their new stuff. We’ll see if the rules really care for heights and so on at all or that much or if they might be easily adapted.
Anyway, they clearly don’t refer to rules specifics and only state restrictions for official events.
This looks a good deal more appealing than the previous version.
Curious about the price point of the monters being $35 a piece and blisters being $20 could get expensive when you start adding buildings. I’m curious how long until we get the combiners and second round of factions as brand new stuff would be cool to see.
Well this is interesting news.
I’d dig out my old models to play this. I’d buy cards but I can’t see PP making them available seperately as they clearly need people to buy the new models. They have picked a scale deliberately to prevent mixing and matching.
There wasn’t much wrong with the old game though other than the blind buy marketing strategy so maybe I will just play that if I feel like joining in.
I’m really interested in this. Liked the old game and loved the monster miniatures: the Planet Eaters, Cthul and Terrasaurs.
Partially I even liked the booster distribution – same way as with the old Star Wars miniatures game – for booster drafts and such. It’s a whole different level of possibilities.
But in general, sure, I am totally for the chance to choose the miniatures you actually like to have.
Never got into the original, like this release model more …. but it the year of big stompy robots it seems – this, pacific rim and adeptus titanicus be interesting to see how they match up.
I have a metric ton of the original miniatures and I enjoyed playing the old game. It irks me that they decided to change the scale. I understand that they want to sell the new stuff, but this isn’t exactly endearing me to the game at all. I would have gladly bought into the new system, as long as I could have used “some” of my old stuff. I think that I’ll pass on this round.
Oh man, they’ve gotta bring back my favourite faction — The Lords of Cthul!
@necrodemion
Be a happy one then: They bring the original six factions (only this time in two major alignments instead of six, which is cool, but I liked the original agendas like Fiends, Destroyers, Invaders, Radicals…)
Look it up on the game’s site: it’s all there. 🙂
As a HUGE fan of the old version, I’m glad to see it back. And I understand they probably can’t afford to do the all plastic blind box route again (which is by no means perfect). But it really irks me that they are flat out not allowing you to use the old figures in the new game. Though I’m sure the new ones are nicer, the old ones were great, and still could have plenty of use, even with updated rules.
