I am going into it and I totally enjoyed KoW week
I want the skull….;) and thanks for the KoW week
Sorry Guys, this did go out at 7am, but was dated for the 1st not the 10th duh!!!
Gonna watch tjis. Am exited pledged vow wwx and AvP
The skull looks nice. KoW week was cool. Glad I started following you guys more and got to see it. I agree with Warren. Undead and Ogres would be great to play. I also have a bunch of clan war minis that I can finally use. Saw Thor 2 last night. It’s ok. Liked the first one better.
Happy Sunday!
Just checked out the Wild West website……sweet baby jesus and the orphans, there are some sweet looking minis there. My interest has been well and truly piqued.
Heroquest set me off in the gaming hobby as well- there are a few Kickstarters I’m interested in out there at the moment (such as Total Extinction), but I’m gritting my teeth and saving my cash for this one- really hope it goes ahead with no big legal spanners chucked in the works- I’m a sucker for a good dungeon crawl and for me, Heroquest is the Big Daddy (see, even managed to get in a wrestling reference there n’all)! How about a Dungeon Crawl Console guys? The sounds of doors being kicked in, treasure chests creaking open, dart traps… Read more »
Heroquest is coming back!? so much joy
Just seeing that jetbike instantly reminded me of brave star 🙂
Skull me
That wild west exodus stuff looked great, especially that big resin tank,
Be interesting to see what they come up with next.
At first I thought Warren and Lloyd went wresslin’ themselves… They’d make a super tagteam.
Btw: where are all the wrestling miniature games? We’re up to our necks in Roman gladiators, how about some modern ones for a change?
There was Da Clash Indiegogo not so long back. It succeeded but I don’t know if it’s ready yet:
http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/da-clash
And back in the day I had a housemate who did a wrestling RPG. It sounded fairly true to American wrestling where you good guys, bad guys, special moves and you’d roleplay the press conferences. Probably long out of print but worth Googling.
waaa!! Justin’s goblin voice sounds like an evil Leprechaun!! Love those resin Exodus models. It’s impossible trying to stick to a single genre when such awesome fantasy, sci-fi, steampunk, horror, wild west models come out. And now that resin skull… I want one for Christmas 🙂 Thanks for a great weekender guys.
WWX. Wow. That looks fantastic!
I didn’t get in on the Kickstarter because westerns don’t really do it for me. Now I’m thinking Future Blazing Saddles!
@broadside are there rules for punching a horse? 🙂
Just seeing those sketches and the model you guys showed there, got me instantly thinking Bravestarr? oh the trip down memory lane….
….Then one day, a lawman appeared
With powers of hawk, wolf, puma and bear
Protector of peace, mystic man from afar
Champion of justice, Marshall Bravestarr!….ahhh…my misspent youth 🙂
That skull would make a fantastic codpiece!
Ex Illis too highbrow? Interesting.
Funny enough, my main beef with Kings of War may well be that their background seems just that tiny bit too lazy and too “lowbrow” (like calling the whole thing “Mantica”, or Orc Axewarriors simply “Axes” ) to truly scratch that “escapism” itch of diving into a “fantastic, strange, alien world” (Black Library style?).
Hard to hit the right balance between both extremes I suppose.
While I love reading the Black Library stuff (or the better writers at least), I also love the feeling of freedom to do whatever you want in Mantica. Admittedly I’ve only planned a KoW army so far but it just feels a bit more … creative.
No having to think about some fluff lawyer remarking on, say, your steam tank in Stirland colours or a Nurgle general/Tzeentch BSB (actually I’d get a bit lawyery on the last one :)).
As you say, it’s finding a balance between both extremes.
To be fair, I am not up to speed with Warhammer Fantasy that much. Warhammer 40K, however, certainly has all those little niches “for the players” build into it. The Codex Astartes, at the end of the day, is a background-device that allows players to both “make their own” and still be “in the universe” in ways that a … dunno … Khador-but-not-Khador faction in Warmachine never could. Even the lost Legions II and XI were originally designed to have that space for “do-something-yourself” (e.g. see the BoW project doing just that), though it sometimes feels like the 40K-community itself… Read more »
Homebrew chapters (which I had in the old days, with Epic and the old Mk6 box sets) are a good example, I reckon. It’s possibly even more a big deal in 40k as the “canon” chapters now all have their own special rules, which DIYers are free to mix and match (as far as I can tell, I don’t collect 40k other than a handful of IG to tit about with on the painting table).
Yeah, I wouldn’t say Mantic have nailed it with their ‘fluff’ and have managed to place jarring elements into it that do break the illusion for me.
Ex Illis was delving into some pretty deep historical aspects of medieval Europe, that I don’t think appealed to your average British or American player.
As with all things it’s horses for courses though!
Well, neither would be (or is) a “deal-breaker” for me at the end of the day if the game/miniatures are good.
I guess the undisputed King on getting “it right” is still Tolkien, who had both the obsession to create things like a fully functional fictional Elvish language and a fully functional cosmology to make “The Lord of the Rings” work on a deeper level, and at the same time was relaxed enough about it to fill it with plenty of self-deprecating Hobbit-Humor, talking Wargs complaining about their stupid Orc-masters, and other “fun stuff”.
I also really was a fan of what Jackson and Livingstone did with the fighting fantasy background.
As a kid I found it really approachable and loved the rune languages etc.
Its a difficult one, but I think with a bit of time (and that’s the real helper in all of these things 40K has had 25 years or so to mature) Mantics and others backgrounds will provide some fantastic and well rounded experiences.
True. Time is important. And I do like my 40K (and other things) with a healthy dose of silliness too. I think 40K is at its weakest when it tries a bit too hard to be more serious than its roots truly are (e.g. Forgeworld, Death Korps of Krieg, etc..). I am not saying there isn’t such a thing as “too high brow”. But at the end of the day, it’s an escapist hobby, and (IMO) it needs to have that minimum of “internal-straight-faced-seriousness” that allows your mind to “escape” to that fantasy-realm in the first place. If that isn’t… Read more »
Well, like a well matured bottle of wine, its about time they pulled the cork and progressed forwards with the 40k storyline.
It’s Twix not KitKat that have the two factories side by side!
That Wild west stuff does look really good. Looking forward to the unboxings and maybe a couple of demos. 😉
What a nice idea, sitting with you guys in a living room having a cup of tea or two and talking about our beloved hobby stuff. Even if you get your studio, I highly recommend you use this set more often 😉
HAPPY SUNDAY.
Regarding Alien vs Predator.
I went from excited to “get lost” the moment I saw the prices.
Also this didnt need Kickstarter to be funded, it just feels like a company taking advantage of the system to me.
I hope it turns out okay.
Personalli I still feel the game to watch it Journey: Wrath of Demons (the monkey magic one)
XLBS cured my hangover, thanks guys!
On the other hand, if I hadn’t stayed up until 03:30 watching the Weekender and drinking ale I would have been perfectly fine this morning…
Once again, thanks for two great shows guys!!
Looking forward to the Wild West Exodus coverage, and my box of goodies from the kickstarter arriving too, between that and Deadzone going to have a busy old Christmas break.
Personally I’m looking forward to AvP, especially if they bring out the marines APC and dropship for the wargame side 🙂 The resin tiles look amazing if you want to go for the full 3D setup…… hoping my wallet will allow that one day
As for Heroquest, am sure GW will (unfortunately) stick their oar in somehow
Me too on the Dropship and APC’s etc!!!
me three! 😀
i’ll b honest, most of my miniature hobbys lifetime ive always themed my items around the “Aliens” franchise, so im Uber Excited about this kickstarter an have high hopes. 🙂
I really would love to see this come out well. Looking forward to seeing the result.
some of those wild west minis look fantastic. I imagine there will be some fantastic gaming boards made up to suit it really well.
