Start Collecting Sets For Kharadron Overlords & Stormcast Vanguard On The Horizon
February 14, 2018 by brennon
Games Workshop is offering up some new routes into the hobby and Age Of Sigmar with two additional Start Collecting Sets for you to check out this weekend.
The Kharadron Overlords are the tinkerers and engineers of the Mortal Realms. These Duardin took to the skies in their various machines. They are treasure seekers and adventurers, looking to head abroad into the skies through roiling tempests.
They come with some rather funky looking guns and ether powered weaponry. Being coated in metal they're also an interesting prospect for a first-time painter as well since it wouldn't take much to make them pop.
Fast & Deadly
Sticking to the ground we have the Stormcast Vanguard, the scouting wing of the Stormcast Eternals. These warriors are a little wilder and bring more exotic creatures into their service to fight alongside them.
I actually really like the look of this set. I think this could be a good companion to the standard Stormcast Eternals Start Collecting Set. One gives you a solid backbone for your force whilst this then adds something different for you to not only paint but also game with.
Both of these sets also come with a Warscroll which give you rules for using them on the tabletop right away.
Blacktalon's Fury
One of the first female Stormcast Eternal models is also available this weekend separately from her original set. Naeve Blacktalon can be snapped up to lead your Vanguard in their assault.
If I was going to be putting her together I would go with the un-helmeted version. I like seeing the faces of the Stormcast Eternal on occasion, especially on named characters, as it makes them stand out from others out there and means you feel a bit more for them as they go about their bloody work on the tabletop.
What do you think of these new offerings?

@brennon I’m the opposite, I always go for the helmeted version. It means one less face to paint poorly…
I was kinda hoping we’d see the next size up of flying airship in a Start Collecting box, but it is still a box I will be picking up for my wife to supplement the dwarves from the Tempests Eye set! Will be picking up Naeve too just because she’s a great looking mini!
I’ve got the Kharadon battleforce box and that starter is the perfect addition to it. I’ll be picking that up for sure.
I like look of Kharadron Overlords so it’s nice that they get they own Start Collecting box but did Sigmarines need another Start Collecting box. Also while I can image that it’s good for Sigmarine players that they can now buy Blacktalon on her own without needing to buy Blightwar boxed set I am sure some of them who own that boxed set might not be happy about it.
Only if they were planning on selling her 😉
I love the Kharadron Overlords, it’s the only Warhammer army that I would love to collect and play, purely on aesthetics. If anyone wants to teach me AoS with the Kharadrons I’m game!
Had they put the ‘regular’ infantry in the starter of the “barely not sci-fi-dwarves” I’d have started a Squat-/Demiurg flavour project. Spares some bucks and effort and time for real hobby projects.
Good for them to finally release her separate. Ebay scalpers can go to…a cozy place.
The kharadron box is less of “start” collecting and more of “continue collecting”, but it’s still a pretty good deal. Let’s hope they boost the gunboat in GH2018.
Wish they had the vanguard box set some months back when I wanted all of those models.
