Star Wars: Legion Painting VLOG – Part 2
February 13, 2018 by johnlyons
In Part 2, now with everything built we get to take a look at the armies marching out for Star Wars: Legion.
I found there was a really nice degree of variety among the sculpts for the core box and the various expansion sets.
The best part for me though was building the AT-ST. This thing was a beautiful little sculpt, and I couldn't resist building it under camera.
That, to me, is Star Wars!
With the building out of the way, it's time to move onto the priming.

What do you guys think of these models? Let us know in the comments below.

AT-ST and speeders are what settled it in my head as a kid that Star Wars was the coolest movie I was ever going to see. Can’t wait for this game now. Looks like I’ll be spending a small fortune lol.
@johnlyons — trying to figure out storage for my army. Would it be possible to publish the base sizes for the different units? Is the AT-ST and Speeder 100mm? Are the smaller units 32mm?
Excellent video! What kind of superglue were you using or what do you recommend for these models?
Super glue is a must, as plastic glue won’t hold. I don’t splash out on glue and get the cheap stuff from our local pound shop. It does the trick just fine.
Wasn’t going to get this, but seriously reconsidering now. Is it possible with the ball joint to not glue, so you angle the head at different angles?
The ball is pretty loose, so you do have to glue it in. But it can still traverse left and right for posing
I totally get your love for the AT-ST. Loved the look of them my entire live. Never thought of them as “the chicken walker”. I always thought they look more like Raptors or something. I own two from the Imperial Assault range and this model is just so much better. With all it pose-ability and much more details. Love it.
They made Star Wars special to me. The sound of them walking had an odd, eerie sound to it when I was young.
How tall is the AT-ST? I am wondering if I could substitute the Bandai 1/48 scale kit.
Hey, @beetle it’s 20.5 cm including the base it’s standing on which is 5mm so if your model is close to 20cm tall then it would probably work.
@lloyd, thanks! The Bandai kit stand between 6.5″ to 8″, so it looks like they are compatible.
Seeing your build has assured me that the minis are of good quality. Sigh: where the Hell am I going to put this stuff?
I’ve had success with difficult-to-base models by embedding the feet in some greenstuff and then sculpting it to be part of the base.
Its an awesome model and I kinda want to buy one just to paint, but then I remember that its grey all over and a very simple uninteresting paint job, despite how cool the model is.
@johnlyons sorry if I missed it in the video, but what was clean up like on these models?
Clean up was fairly quick, Dawn and Gianna said the same thing during their Core unboxing. Looks like they ( FFG ) hit the mark as far as clean up and fitting go.
I didn;t do any 🙂
Oh yes, that AT-ST is looking awesome!
Can’t wait to see the rest of this Vlog series 🙂
Its going to be a fun week with these great models they look fantastic.
Any chance of getting a picture of these minis next to some 40k or Bolt Action minis for a size comparison?
There bigger than BA. Probably similar to the new space marines in height.
Any chance you can show priming one of the speeder bikes so we can see how you mask off the various bits for the two colours of priming?
The mini’s look amazing. I’m glad they went for a better scale for the Larger items, compared to what they did for Imperial Assault.
For anyone interested, this is roughly to scale for Legion.

more and more impressed with the miniatures the more i see of them, bring on the paint.
I share your glee at the AT-ST. It’s like it’s walked straight out of the film
Interestingly the model has a duel use, can double as the Flea in Battletech, for any idiot like me who has 28mm Battlemechs,
It looks so quick and easy and gives good results. I will have an air brush someday, but it is not in my immediate future. Can similar results for highlighting be achieved with rattle cans or a heavy dry brush?
