Monolith Becomes Sole Publisher Of Mythic Battles And Announces Plans
January 29, 2018 by thisisazrael
After an incredibly successful Kickstarter and product delivery from Mythic Games and Monolith Edition, update #178 on the Mythic Battles: Pantheon Kickstarter has dropped a big bit of business news while also highlighting a taste of things to come.
The Monolith team wrote;
"Although our collaboration on Mythic Battles: Pantheon was a success, Monolith and Mythic Games jointly decided to bring it to an end.
This conclusion appeared obvious after a common reflection. It has been clear that, for the good of both companies, they must be free to fully commit themselves to their own product ranges, by deciding the entirety of their editorial and commercial policies.
That is why we came to an agreement on Monolith acquiring the rights for the Mythic Battles range (Pantheon, Ragnarök …) in full. From now on, we will take charge of the management of the whole range (development, marketing, communication, after-sales…).
We deeply believe in Mythic Battles, and we have at heart to expand the game and its community as we did for Conan. With this in mind, we have taken a number of resolutions whose application will be gradual:
- The planning of a reprint campaign for Mythic Battles: Pantheon this spring. The launch of the Ragnarök campaign in 2019.
- The immediate welcome of the English and French-speaking community on the website www.the-overlord.net and the publication of a set of free tools and graphic assets for Mythic Battles.
- The addition in the future compendiums (a series of free booklets gathering the best contributions of The Overlord community) of scenarios and articles for Mythic Battles.
- The creation of a FAQ. We have already started to gather the feedback and questions on various forums. A thread has been opened on that matter on www.the-overlord.net.
These resolutions are a long-term endeavor and commit us for a number of years, but true to development policy of our games, we will continue to make grow and enrich Mythic Battles.
We are truly happy to announce that, for Mythic Battles, the adventure is only beginning."
It's clearly only the start of an exciting time for Mythic Battles and the hints at Ragnarok are really enticing.
What do you think of this news?

Interesting. I am a big fan of both Conan and Mythic Battles: Pantheon. In fact, I played my second game of MB: P last night and it was great fun.
This gives monolith two really big properties – and there’s Batman: Gotham City Chronicles on the horizon. I really hope that both the games and companies involved will go from strength to strength.
I will miss Leo, though! He has always been the face of MB:P for me! Let’s hope that the games and gamers alike remain in ‘a good place’ for years to come.
What will Leo’s future role be? He was the public face of the game, and seemed so integral to it happening.
Leo will still be continuing on the same role with Mythic Games, it’s just that Mythic Battles is no longer a game we have any involvement with 🙂
I concur about Leo!
I’m sure he wil be still a regular at BOW.
Well its an interesting move, Leo and Co were the driving force behind Mythic Battle Pantheon, both game design and promotion, Monolith were the production. So Monolith have one hell of an act to follow. Mythic Games I guess will focus on JoA Time of Legands and go from there.
I will still certainly look at Mythic Battles Ragnarok but they need to do a superb job promoting it to get anywhere close to MBP.
Heh not sure why but my interest in ragnarok has plummeted, its not like i have any personal involvment with with the Mythic guys, i guess half of the fun was the lunacy of leo during the final hours of the KS
My interest in Ragnarok is still sky high. I can’t help but want to see Thor in the same scale as Ares. And maybe even put them toe to toe
That is if they don’t change the game mechanics but we will have to wait untill the KS to find that out.
@commodorerob Again I concur, (the in use word from someone I work with)
You’ll be continuing to see lots of Leo. Mythic Games has plenty of projects in the works 🙂
@redben So does this mean that MBP will no longer appear at the Mythic days that were being planned?
Everything to do with Mythic Battles will now be handled by Monolith. Our official Mythic Days won’t feature the game.
Not what was said all along the journey through the Kickstarter though was it? Videos on sites like this, on the Leo lives, and probably at shows and events backers were repeatedly told that Mythic Games were in it for the long run, and you had lots of plans for involvement with backers and community as a whole. Lots of people bought into that premise of ongoing support for the game from MG, not just the game itself, and maybe a lot will feel more than a little let down that now it’s all been sold to Monolith. I know… Read more »
Ehhhhh, this is a disappointing development. MGs did a terrific job with MBP, and given its success I’m surprised to see them just let it go. As for Monolith . . . well, I have been underwhelmed with their support for Conan. To take one example, it’s a game that begs for scenario and campaign support, and they haven’t done a terrific job on that front, especially when contrasted with what MGs did with MBP and its various expansions. I will say, however, that their decision to run a second printing campaign quickly is most welcome. If they’re refusing to… Read more »
I am with you @nakchak and @commodorerob.
It seems so sad. All the effort that Mythic Games put into the game towards the people (Leo lives, support, videos) and Monolith is going to take it over.
@redben is there going to be a statement from Mythic Games about the end of the collaboration? I guess it wouldn’t have been an easy decision from Mythic Games letting MB:P go.
Yes, we will be posting a statement.
Strange set of event’s
I really hope Mythic Games have plans outside Joan of Arc. It may be an excellent game – 15mm just isn’t for me. There’s so much talent in that company, I want see what is next – and back another one of their Kickstarters!
Watch this space 🙂
I backed core box MB:P only because I’ve been saving my peanuts for MB: Ragnarok. THAT’S the game I want. Batman is an irritant that I’ll just have to wait until it’s done. I like the look of JoA and grabbed a dragon for painting. Ultimately though, it’s just not my cup of tea.
So, now that you’ve got Ragnarok Monolith, hurry up and get it to KS! I’ll be the first clicking that All-In pledge.
In the name of congruity will Mythic Games be renaming themselves TOL Games, or will Mythic Battles be renamed Monolith Battles? If not i fear the french pedants will revolt.
What is TOL?
Time Of Legends.
So… What happened to all the promises etc., made by Leo and others during the campaign on sites such as Beasts of War, the campaign videos, Leo lives etc., that they had future plans for the game and the community in such areas as tournaments and events and they would be around long term. Feel a bit duped to be honest My initial feeling is one of ‘we got this done and now we are going to sell up to Monolith and forget all the assurances given during the Leo lives and other video outlets during the campaign’ So glad… Read more »
Mythic Battles is still here. Nothing has changed for it. Fulfilment of the KS is not affected either .
So what’s happening with deliveries then? Why isn’t anyone answering those people posting on the Kickstarter page, and why aren’t they getting replies from your delivery companies?
Lots of people will be interested to see what is in the statement.
When is it coming out?
We posted weekly updates on delivery and I can assure you we frequently answered emails and questions on it. I did that for several hours today alone. Nothing has changed in that respect. Fulfilment continues as normal. We were relaying informarion from the hubs, which is the same information Monolith have.
Just to finish that thought as it’s left hanging a bit. It’s not the case things have changed with regards to fulfilment. The hubs are doing that, they were sending information to us and to Monolith. We were handling communuication so were passing information on as we got as well as answering queries (which we did a lot). All that is changing with regards to fulfilment is who is communicating the information. That is now Monolith. The fulfilment itself is not affected in any way.
I have to admit, I’m a wee bit bummed about this. I went all in on MB:P and I’m so glad that I did, partly because of the game design, art direction and theme, but also because of the ridiculous levels of enthusiasm and communication from Leo and Jake. I also went reasonably heavily on JoA for the same reasons, the livestream of Leo in the final few hours was amazing and I’m sure that it was a driving force behind the game’s success. It just seems a bit sad to me that MB:P won’t be appearing at Mythic Days,… Read more »
The two companies will have collaborated/partnered for a reason – typically that their capabilities complemented each other in terms of strenghts and weaknesses. They appear to have worked well from the outside but there would almost inevitably have been some tensions and at the end of the day some ‘creative differences’ in terms of vision and direction. We can only hope that they have both learnt from each other and have addressed previous weaknesses to both have a robust future. Maybe after their solo projects have worked through they might find they work better together … or not as the… Read more »
Conan is a fantastic game, but slightly half-baked. I went in on a plain Barbarian pledge and got a whole box of goodies…which I’ve essentially been completely unable to use given the heavy scenario only nature of the game and no real scenarios for them from a Monolith. I didn’t back MBP, but regret that. MBP seemed to have a much clearer idea of how the game could be played, expand and progress. Battle and scenario modes, organised play events in the works. I can’t help feel this announcement somehow pulls MBP down to Conan level of support, a seemingly… Read more »
Well, Justin seems intent on pushing the successful delivery of MB:P and leo will nod along but in reality it’s a bit of a shambles, communication on the kickstarter also dropped off heavily over the last couple of months. Now it’s clear why of course. Whether monolith or mythic, as good as the resulting game is, someone created the garbage fire at the end of the MB:P campaign. Obviously statements from the companies won’t answer to that so I suppose keeping an eye on how JoA and Batman are handled will give a bit of an indicator. I’m interested in… Read more »
I don’t understand what you mean? They’re still putting out regular updates via the Kickstarter.
I was also surprised by this sudden split. The strangest thing to me is that ‘Mythic’ Games won’t be making more ‘Mythic’ Battles. It will be interesting to see how both companies will move forward and what it will mean for their current and future games.
Dang, totally bummed. I was totally stoked for Leo and company to announce Ragnarok and provide another Epic Kickstarter month, full of joy and wonder. Honestly though, I am currently not excited about Ragnarok anymore.
Well, if that means I can get a copy of Poseidon at some point in a not too distant future, fine with me!!!!
Stunned!
looking forward to seeing the direction mythic games take now they’re free to express themselves in any way they see fit. onward and upwards.
Ragnarok was the mythic battles title that i was going to struggle to resist. definitely less likely to jump on board now though. that being said it’s good to see that folks will get a second bite at the incredibly successful pantheon.
Sad to hear, loved/loving Mythic Battles and the creativity energy, ability and spirit of the awesome team of Mythic brought was clearly the driving force in creating such a wonderful game and product. Will of course continue enjoying MBP and look forward to Mythics next ventures…but yeh still a bit of a shame 🙁
I feel the same as most, mythic games with Leos energy always came across as the driving force and its strange having mythic pantheon without them being involved. Its.like after all the hype and gameplay and Ks rollercoaster they then ditch it.
I didnt back Joa in the end although I did have a pledge ,too may 15mm to paint and I know I wouldnt do it.
We didn’t ditch it. It was always owned 50/50 with Monolith, and for the game to have the best future it needed one of those companies to own it 100%. That’s all that happened.
@redben thanks for all the info mate. My two penneth, now I’ve had a time to thunk about it. in the words on Corporal Jones ‘don’t panic!’ Even before redben gave a few of details, I’d pretty much figured out the reason behind the move. I agree the Leo and his team no longer being behind Mythic Battles is a shame as he was the face of the game. But Monolith brought the sole rights , so they must have plans for the game other than a reprint , otherwise why bother. Up to now they have sat in the… Read more »
