The Might Of Terra Arrives, Adeptus Custodes For Warhammer 40,000
January 22, 2018 by brennon
Both the weekend just went and this coming Saturday signal the addition of new models for the Adeptus Custodes in Warhammer 40,000. Let's take a look at what Games Workshop has shown off...
Leading the way we have Captain-General Trajann Valoris here who many will have already seen in the previews. This fellow is now available as the main character worthy of leading your forces off Terra in pursuit of threats to the Imperium, both Xenos and Traitor.
As mentioned before; I do really like the look of the model overall. I think they've struck a good balance between the ornate and the practical (well, as practical as you can get in the grimdark future).
Mighty Bodyguards
Surrounding Trajann Valoris as he makes his strike against the enemy you have the might of the Allarus Custodians.
Clad in terminator armour and wielding some dangerously powerful weapons they are ruthless in their dogged pursuit of the enemy. This set also allows you to make two different characters instead of the regular Allarus Custodians.
Here you can see the Vexilus Praetor (Left) & Shield-Captain (Bottom) which act as additional leadership options for the force. It's neat seeing how their older armour style reflects that of the Chaos Space Marines, especially the likes of Abaddon The Despoiler (maybe it's the top knots!), acting as a reminder of that terrible period in Warhammer 40,000 history.
What's To Come?
Next weekend also brings some new releases for the Adeptus Custodes with additional support both on foot and in the air. Firstly we have the look at the Vertus Praetors with their shining lances and a prow which is utterly packed with heavy duty weaponry.
These vehicles not only benefit from speed but also weapons which can be used against infantry, vehicles and even flying opponents too. Good luck transporting these fellows without the aid of magnetised arms...
We also have some golden oldies (hah). Here are the Custodian Wardens who are some of the oldest and wisest of the Adeptus Custodes.
This set will allow you to make a unit of these several-century old warriors, resplendent with additional wargear. You can also make HQ units out of the kit with a chance to make the same Vexilus Praetor & Shield-Captain, just with different armour and weapon options.
What do you think of this golden horde?

Really impressed with these models from GW and have always been intrigued by the Custodes lore.
They look fabulous and with 10K plus strong in number a great 30K army for 40K battles.
May look good black with gold trimmings
I like nearly all the models, the bikes are truly stunning. Only point I am not keen on is terminator basic shoulder pads. Listening to podcast I have to say a sub 30 model army has an appeal. Be good to see how Heresy dreads and the good looking tanks fit in.
I like a lot about this range and the fact any potential army would have a small footprint but if I were to have one complaint is that a noticeable amount of the range is rather static or not to hat dynamic.
Quite a bit shown, like the characters and standard bearers are standing to attention; The named character looks a bit boring in that pose; hopefully others get released at a future date.
I am not a 40k player, but if I were these would be my boys as they have always fascinated me ever since I saw the first bare chested metal Custodes model all those, far too many, years ago. (or Orks because they are fun) The models are beautiful and as others have said you don’t need many of them … slow painters bliss. 🙂
@beardragon14 a man of clear taste, do the orks I have heard exciting things come June/July but be warned once you go green …
… you are seldom clean??? 😛
…… you look like a bean???? 😛 😛
……. women aren’t keen ????? 😛 😛 😛
…you’ll always been keen for the green machine. They are addictive.
😀
Nice work mate (I do have a soft spot for Orks(Orcs), Grots (Goblins), Ogryn(Ogres), Ratlings (Halflings) …… but definately not Eldar)
Splattering Orks with Smurf Power since 1996!
Yes – watching them die is addictive 🙂
You brute ……. 😉
Can’t be a proper Ultramarine player, looks like he like fighting rather than sitting in the corner playing diplomat
Yes – we do like a bit of fighting, mainly shooting and standing in a nice straight gun line with our bolt guns.
We do take our proscribed Codex time out breaks to clean and polish our armour and count our ammo. If we run out we might have to do some actual close combat fighting which is never a good thing and quite a messy affair.
Other than than mainly marching around and looking good is the primary objective 🙂
Those jetbikes are really good but I am not sure what to think about they choice weapons considering that we have seen something similar from Eldar. But rest are also good so in that sense I have no issue with those.
Dam – I want a pre-heresy Emperor’s Children’s army. Like Roman Praetorians. I could Primaris scale them with these bits. That jetbike looks better than the forgeworld 30k one.
If they could use drop pods, I’d have loads of these gilded warriors rain down on the sky to make planetfall. Yes, a great, big, golden shower!
Followed up by a good old fashioned Power Fisting……..
