The general on the horse looks like a great choice for the tank commander. Seeing some primer going down is a nice stage in any project. Looking forward to seeing this all come together. Turned out to be an inspired choice of miniatures, because i think it would be a joy to play with or against once its all painted.
Really enjoying this VLOG @johnlyons it’s providing me with a lot of ideas for my own Astra Militarum force based on a GW Tempestus core of models. The grim dark conversions are working well and provide a thematic feel to the force, however i have to agree with the greater collective those gun crew look like runts compared to the rank and file. The Lascannon / Canon conversion great – midget operators not so much but that’s only scale of miniatures. If you can source some suitable size replacements / head chops they will tie in a lot better to… Read more »
As you said previously, primer ties the different parts together, and painting will only do more to. I think the cav units will look especially nice.
Love the tank cdr idea.
The bits are looking really nice now on the CAV as well.
Looking forward to this
Will dust the Christmas dust off my Macharius and put that back on the painting table now.
I was thinking Mounted Commisar for that model.
Looks like it is coming together nicely. I like the model you have chosen as a tank commander, I think you could use the third artilleryman by snipping out the ram rod and replacing it with a banner pole. It would certainly tie in with all the other banners found in the force and could also be used for signalling when comms are down.
I like the idea with the signal flag. Trimming the rod, replace it with the wire used for the lances and put a small triangular flag on top. I think it would look very good.
Looking bang on! It’s definitely coming together with the primer on them now.
The Tank Commander choice is inspired, really nice! Also it’s great to see paint going down, it marks quite a milestone in an army that’s had this much conversion.
Also, I think “Vinyl-res” to remember how to pronounce “Stynylrez” 😀
Converting the Ram Rod guy into a Standard Bearer and having him on one of your Artillery might be an idea as well… Also depending on the metal Front Rank use, you could also bend the arm into another pose (or leave him so it looks like he is thumbing a lift!
Yes. The tank commander is a great idea. Dutch gunners is always a good thing just because they are dutch.
Does anybody know if the British light dragoons cavalry from Perry miniatures are ok too use scale wise in a 40 k army?
they are looking great,
the only thing was the commander reminded of the Anglia TV logo john.
He reminded me of Admiral Car insurance… Kinda why I wanted him in a tank.
Awesome, it’s really shaping up! The commander will work great with the Macharius!
It’s a crossover I felt the army was missing. Sure all the Napoleonic guys are getting 40k bits, but the Mecharius was missing some Napoleonic parts to help blend it in 🙂
Good choice John! Thanks for a very good vlog series. Has gotten me to want to create my own IG army based on Napoleonic models
Good! I’d love to see them once you get going.
The gun cleaner trooper could be a bannerman?
i would go with tall guy mixed in artilerry guys and say they too short for ground troops.
Glad you are keeping the scale of minis the same. Are you going to magnate the commander in?
like the idea of the tank commander but can’t escape the impression that he has a right hand on his left arm! it may just be the way its been painted but I cant unsee it now
