Plastic Zulus Are Coming From Perry Miniatures This Month
January 8, 2018 by stvitusdancern
On January 22nd/23rd of this year, we will mark the 139th anniversary of the iconic battles of the Anglo-Zulu War, Isandlwana and Rorke's Drift.
This will also be the release date for the Perry Miniatures Zulu Warriors sets.
I for one am very excited for this as the Anglo-Zulu War is one of my favourites. Per their Facebook page...
Zulus are coming! Thousands of them...
Well, they are coming and should arrive by January 22nd/23rd (the dates of the Battles of Isandlwana and Rorke's Drift). The last step is getting the boxes printed and sent to Renedra for packing, but that's all underway. The box contains thiryt-eight plastic 28mm Zulus and includes four casualties, all can be assembled as a married unit or an unmarried one by the choice of head. Up to ten figures can be armed with firearms or all with a mix of spear (iklwa), javelin (umkhonto) and club (knobkerry).
The information pamphlet in the box was written by Col Mike Snook and also includes a guide to regimental shield colours. There is also a 'Free' figure of Chief Ntshingwayo kaMahole Khoza, one of the Zulu commanders at the Battle of Isandlwana when you purchase three boxes of Zulus.
I am very pleased to have further options when it comes to miniatures in 28mm scale to help add to my Impi. I expect the quality to be as good as any other miniature that they produce.'
Are you ready to face the Horns of the Buffalo?

Those are some rather nice Zulus and there even seems to be some with rifles.for that Battle of Rorke’s Drift scenario.
Bugger, just got 6 boxes of Zulus from Warlord, these look like they may be better. The British soldiers are better from Perry miniatures.
Im not into historicals, but something makes me want to paint them up in alien skin tones and give them some sci-fi rifles here and there.
Very Pulp! Could make for some cool scenarios 🙂
I’m opening myself thrown at me but I liked the John Carter of Mars movie from a few years ago.
Could work for something along those lines.
Hm. I could get a persian kit and do head swaps here and there and do something Dune inspired too…
I also enjoyed that movie-it’s fun! Think I’ve seen some minis out there too…think it was ironclad miniatures
The Zulu Dawn film covers the isandlwanda Battle @doktormatt84 which is quite good as well.
@gianna next time you’re over get Gerry to run Rorke’s Drift again, we had an excellent time playing that, big group, great fun. but need beer…..
@avernos, Gerry you need more Zulu’s don’t you
already looked at them, but not immediately…maybe for Isandlwana though 😉
@avernos you’re working on doing a 1:1 game aren’t you?
Feels that way. But not for zulus
Could I make them warriors of Meroe and have them fight Roman Legionaries?
You could but I’d recommend using the “Mahdist Ansar” Box from Perry Miniatures (Sudanese in the 1880’s). It comes with a few Riflemen (You have to build 6 per box) and the swords might not be 100% accurate but the clothing fits. Plus Perry Miniatures down Camels and other specialist units. You could replace the rifles with homemade spears and they’d be fine.
