Archon Studio’s’Chronicle X Goes Interstellar With Stretch Goals
December 28, 2017 by thisisazrael
The team from Archon Studio have been continually updating the Chronicle X Kickstarter with new stretch goals as their campaign rolls on so I thought I'd show off some of the highlights.
The "XXL Models" in the form of the 79mm Devoli Ridgebeast and 68mm Karoth Riverfirnd below show off just how detailed the models for this game are.
Compared to the lonely Gray these guys are huge!
The biggest addition to Chronicle X is probably the expansions "Abyss" and "Area51".
The Abyss expansion sees a Gray ship crash off the coast of New York presenting a new underwater battlefield and an opportunity that the Chronicle X team can't pass up on.
The Abyss adds in a ton of new tiles and tokens but the most interesting bit for me are the Oxygen Trackers which will present some pressing time restraints on the humans as they try and retrieve tech from the submerged UFO.
Area 51 introduces night combat to the game and focuses on the now Gray controlled Area 51 which is currently being used as a base of operations.
The Chronicle X team will have to try and infiltrate a fortified installation under the cover of night in an attempt to deal a vicious blow to the Gray forces.
We've also seen a host of new minis for the "goodie" Chronicle X team.
In this picture, we have Glitch, Hayden Walker and Jericho Mardas.
One stretch goal that really caught my personal attention was that all core games will now come with a foam insert to protect the miniatures.
Although this is a board game, rather than a miniatures game, the sculpting standard is incredibly high and I really appreciate this line of stretch goal thinking for board games and not just miniature games.
All in all, I'm really happy to see board game Kickstarters get a heap of support and the game overall get more depth of play.
What do you think of the latest stretch goals for Chronicle X?

I’m really liking where they are going with this. I may need to up my pledge to include those expansions….oh….who am I kidding….I know I’ll end up “all in” before it’s over. :p
I’m really struggling to understand this game. Is it a parody game? Because those monsters are a Rankor and a Critter. But not much else in the game screams parody?
Infact I even thought the greys were quite unique in their style…. really baffled by it -_-
Probably more like a homage some of the heroes are also inspired by/homage to movies and stuff, quite some Kickstarter boardgames do these as Stretchgoals, Zombicide Black Plague had the knights from Monthy Python and the holy grail and Ash and Evil Ash from Army of Darkness among others and Sine Tempore has the heroes + Dark Helmet from Spaceballs. Though in this case neither the heroes nor the enemies seem to be Kickstarter exclusives which they miniatures I mentioned in the other games were.
The figures look fabulous especially the monsters. & robots.
Yeah, I actually found my enthousiasme waning as time went by. I liked the set-up, but the parody aspect of many of the mini’s was allready losing it’s charm.
And having read the rules, for what they are now, don’t seem to be doing anything really exciting…
I dropped my pledge.
Shame really..
Unfortunately I am tending to agree – I liked the concept of the game and it looked like the minis would have a very cool serious vibe to them at first, but now I feel they are getting a bit too out there for me 😀
Nice mini’s, shame about the lack of game. It will fun big time, as all these flash KS do, and then fade away never to be heard of in gaming circles again. TBH why not just KS the mini’s and drop the pretense of having a game?
Hmmm… Maybe I need to look at the game. As n9ce as a set of minis may be I son’t have space if the game isn’t enough of a draw.
I checked the other Archon Studio KS products on Boardgamegeek and they are currently rated really poorly. That said, if you really like the figures that might be enough for your pledge to be worth it.

Aliens are great and interesting looking. Those humans are rather generic but those are not bad either.
wheres the gremlin thats in the background of the promo here on bow? i just want that mini an maybe the critter
nevermind found it, its at an oddly place sideways so was hard to spot as gremlin
Great miniatures but pretty shitty game play, this thing will just gather dust.
Looks like funding has dropped off, so maybe folks are doing a bit more research and pulling their pledges.
