The Char B1 Bis Tank For Bolt Action Faces The Blitzkrieg
December 5, 2017 by thisisazrael
Warlord Games have released a new kit for the Char B1 bis heavy tank for Bolt Action.
In the early years of the war, the Char B1 bis proved very successful in fighting off German Panzers.
This was not to last however as it's slow speed and high fuel consumption left it flagging in the more mobile battlefields of WWII.
"With the fall of France, the victorious German military captured 161 Char B1 bis tanks and repurposed them under the nomenclature Panzerkampfwagen B-2 740 (f). Several were also converted into flame-throwing tanks. Many would find a defensive use on the channel islands and the Atlantic wall."
The kit actually allows you to build either a French or German gun tank or if you wish to fight in a later period of the war you can pick from one of two versions of German flammpanzers.
The kit comes with the usual stat cards, waterslide decal sheets, damage markers and also the options of one French or two German tank commanders.
All-in-all a really well rounded kit full of options from Warlord here.
Which way would you assemble this kit?
According to the Warlord site this is a plastic kit btw.
Love this. I’m tempted by 90% of the stuff I read on here and early war French are no exception.
That looks really nice.
nice.
This looks like a great kit . The sprue shots on the BA site show you can build this tank in 4 different ways . As a vanilla French Char 1 bis , as the captured version with the German commanders hatch , as a flamethrower version with the flame gun replacing the bow 75mm , or a second flame version with the Panzer II Flamingo swivel style flame gun mounted . I think a 3 pack is going to make it onto my xmas wish list
That is a neat looking tank. 40k conversion fodder…
Interesting historical point for AZ (John will probably know this) the grill on the tanks left on side showing on top photo was weakness on tank that the Germans quickly exploited, as their 37 mm guns could penetrate it there.
@bobcockayne Little points like this really bring it all to life, thanks so much for sharing Bob 🙂 Az
If you go to Bovington have a tap along the side of the Char B. Sounds solid until you get to the engine cover when it sounds like your hitting a baking tray from Poundland
I would assemble this as the German version to include it into a looted panzer division in Normandy.
