Dip doesn’t have to be the end all – be all. I think the banner looks good as is. The cloak being mostly white looks like a blank canvas to me, but unless you are looking to get your freehand on, I’d probably just leave it for now.
Very nice seeing them all finished together the color scheme looks great and I agree adding some vehicles and more units is a must. Glad I watched this as I always used to blow the bases after adding basing material now I know why I had lots of problems, and my glue I used always dried to quick.
Thanks for posting.
They look great all together. Plasma effect is gorgeous. And how many different names did @warzan give the Fortress there?
Another great series of vlogs. End result looks really good and most players would be proud to put those down on the table for a game.
Nice work John. The dip is a nice tool to help add a little something to the models. In my opinion I still think adding the highlights before the dip s the way go. Not sure about the edge highlights on the armour they are just a little to stark for me but as always the personal opinion
Yeah John used powerful highlights here, the dip would have toned those down quite a bit.
‘It’s personal opinion’ I mean
Looks great. Want to do an attachment of these guys now. Looking forward to seeing you do a few vehicles.
Spectacular looking army @johnlyons
I agree on the bases, simple yet stunningly effective (just as I like it!).
Banner, cloak and freehands are top drawer stuff mate 😎
Perfect glow effect, not too exaggerated!
Excellent start to a really cool army 🙂
But I’m still not convinced by the green skin tone 😉
I come for the tutorial I stay for @Lancorz silky editing skillz
*Brushes shoulders*
@warzan you missed one when you were naming the fortress https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xyYrQZ50hQk
Very impressed with he final product. Nice basing technique too!
Great looking army. The basing is a really nice touch, and it’s making me think about my basing and how I can add an extra component or two in to the mix to break things up a bit.
Thanks for a great series, now can we see you doing a force for AoS? 😀
love the quick simple look to the bases that look fabulous finished.
That looks really nice as an army on the tabletop John.
@johnlyons I am interested to add some perspective for those of us who have followed the vlog buddy. How long in sat down painting hours has it taken you to paint and base the whole force?
roughly 55 working hours.
For the shoulder pads, to avoid the freehand and make it more consistent, have you considered these?

fit perfectly on shoulder pads and look great.
great looking army with an imaginative twist on colour scheme that worked a treat. I’ve enjoyed watching the process as much as the result. you fellas need to get stuff done and it’s fascinating to see what is now pretty much the BoW method evolve. airbrush base coat and first highlight, followed by brushed dip and edge highlights. then adding in details like the plasma glow, for which you have a good method down, make all the difference and are worth spending a little time on. adding little things like this to your arsenal to supplement the core method is… Read more »
Showing the whole basing step was a good idea I’d say. While I enjoy basing trying to get an even layer of flock or sand without bald patches drives me utterly ballistic. I now have a potential fix…cheaper runnier pva 🙂
Great looking color Scheme and impressive free hand work. The “Fortress of Melancholy” is a great backdrop to display them. Redemption… LOL
What a great serie, and the video editing is on point man! Loveing the freshness of BoW .
