Orlocks Invade Necromunda’s Underhive In 2018 + Painted Varagyr Terminators
November 27, 2017 by brennon
The third faction coming to Necromunda: Underhive next year has been revealed by Games Workshop. Meet the Orlocks...
Made up of the various engineers and mechanics that find themselves being disenfranchised by those above them they formed into a gang and use their considerable talents to make sure that things are kept in order amongst the workers.
They use a range of powerful weapons that they've fashioned themselves and tweaked to their own specifications. They look awesome too, and relatively normal compared to some of the other gangs out there.
That means they might also have a few more alternative choices when it comes to weapons including this harpoon-style launcher above. I like their style and you've also got plenty of awesome beards and other types of facial hair to paint which is always a good sign in a model set.
They have a great style to them, and each of these models is going to be brought to life by the second of the Gang War books which will detail them as a faction and keep you up-to-date with new scenarios and more in 2018.
Some new 2D battle boards are going to be available alongside the rules as well to change up the environments you can fight in, and of course, the 3D range is no doubt going to expand in the new year as well.
Additionally, you'll also find some rules for hiring Hive Scum and Bounty Hunters for your gang, a bit like these fellows here.
Each of them is looking nice and individual in their appearance with a good twist to each of their designs. I like the somewhat mutated and hunched fellow and the woman with the flowing face covering; it's a nice touch and you could imagine she stole and ripped it from a gang's banner.
Hulking Wolves
We also got a preview of what's coming from Forge World with painted versions of the Varagyr Terminators by Forge World.
It's nice for us to get a proper look at the final models. The previews we'd seen before were somewhat lacking in detail but now I think it would be hard to ignore these snarling warriors.
The entire squad is looking rather awesome and might be a good addition to both Horus Heresy-era armies as well as those from the more recent timeline. You could use them as honoured and revered Wolf Guard who have fought alongside their Wolf Lord for generations.
What do you think of these new previews from Games Workshop?

Those new Orlocks are really good and I do like how those look. And I never have cared about them before this. Those Hired Guns are also good looking miniatures and so are those Varagyr Terminators.
@mecha82 i know what you mean, the new sculpts make me want to collect the two gangs i owned but never played (goliaths and orlocks).
Really looking forward to what modern redemptionists will look like given how good GW have got at cloaks and robes since the originals were sculpted, and how insane and dynamic the spyrers will look given what they did with the harlies and assassins in recent years 😀
The Orlocks and Termies look great. Not sold on the Bounty Hunters / Mercs, apart from the Beastman who was previewed a little while back. I will await my Van Saar book and hope it’s not too far away next year.
I’ll guess I’ll be picking up Orlocks Q1 and Van Saar Q2 then.
Digging those Orlock weapon design, very thematic. All the cutting up of rules though………
Fingers crossed they eventually get around to the Redemptionists and Enforcers, loads of potential there!
Orlock models look great. I’d held off buying new Necromunda until seeing some more gangs as Orlocks were my main gang in old necromunda. Im really not happy with how the rules are being released very piecemeal though. Most companies (even GW) give away rules now to sell their games models. Its just back to the bad days of profiteering with having to buy the box game and multiple gang war books just to be able to play ‘normal’ 3d necro with multiple gangs.
I’m pretty sure GW put out a PDF with rules for all other “old” gangs. But it’s true that the 3D terrain rules are in the Gang War book.
The newly released Gang War book is 65 pages full of lore, rules for the 2 new style gangs, campaign rules and scenarios. I assume Gang Wars 2 will also be at least 65 pages as well. Perhaps even a 3rd book to cover more gangs and more scenarios etc. You really cant expect a company to put so much production value and resources behind a product line and give out hundreds of pages of rules etc for free. 4, 8 12 pages of core rules I can understand but asking them to give out volumes for free is just… Read more »
@gibbomadness giving away rules for free does happen these days. In nice well produced pdfs, I don’t know where the idea that have to be monetised comes from it is a relic of an older age.
If you are happy paying for it, or like the physical book great, but don’t be shocked when others don’t find it appealing
Free rules are normally given out when a product has no customer base and needs to gain traction like when you go to events and company after company are handing out booklets of free rules. The cost of producing those for a company is a gamble as its return on its investment in those rules could be very low. Then you have larger companies like GW giving out rules for free on a new product like they did with AoS. They knew charging initially with a new slimmer untested rules set would prove unpopular. This whole thing with Necromunda is… Read more »
@gibbomadness you see to have missed my point, but accidentally hit upon another at the sametime … It was a response to you can’t expect them to provide rules for free … well other companies do, so it is possible. As to monetising, rules don’t need to be monetised. The time is, as the rules sell the minis therefore return an investment. Also hundreds of hours for a 65 page rulebook? Really? Now to the point you did hit, they can get away with it .. yes they can all the time they have enough fans who will pay for… Read more »
I guess we will see an end to the defensive posts about why they can/should do it one way when we see an end to all the piss and whinge when they don’t do it another way.
I don’t really see the lack of free rules as an issue really. I suspect very strongly that the majority of Infinity players have purchased the rules, not least because it’s an absolutely horrible pdf to try and read. Same goes for 40k or Age of Sigmar; most players will likely own the hardback rules and won’t be using the free ones. Necromunda doesn’t have free rules but I suspect it’s selling rather well (judging by the amount of Stock Element Games bought). I suspect that a lot of people who want the free rules would like to play it… Read more »
Why even put effort into defending? Are we somehow hoping to sway someone elses opinion with a an equal amount of pissing and whinging? Just admit you enjoy it :p
Same reason people put effort into criticising I suppose.
I wasn’t happy with the pricing of the core set as it was given that it didn’t include the rules that made Necromunda what it was anyway (the 3D and campaign rules) but I could at least accept that the rules were going to be in the Gang War book. But now we find out that the Gang War book only has rules for the gangs in the core box and we have to buy additional supplements for the extra gangs? Are we looking at a series of Gang War books of two factions each (Although we haven’t heard what… Read more »
The rules for all the old gangs are available from GW as a free download. You don’t have to wait, or buy anything if you don’t want to.
It’s here:

I imagine that will only be the rules insofar as the starter lists are released for most GW games, and the “Codex” releases at a later date will contain more rules and options. Nothing I’ve seen of Necromunda suggetss any different at this stage.

GW only give rules away for their core systems, as far as I know – that is Age of Sigmar and 40k. None of their boxed games have free rules to the best of my knowledge.
Good models and they’ve managed to inject a bit of character to what was always the most Vanilla gang. Slightly disappointed that this gang isn’t a mix of males and females; I suspect just having 1 sprue to make your gang from, makes that difficult from a design stand point considering the options they’re wanting you to have when building a ganger. Still a bit of a shame. I imagine the solution is to just buy some Esher stuff and paint them in Orlock colours. I do wish the main house gangs were being released quicker though; I’d have thought… Read more »
Couldn’t agree more. A kit for generic female gangers would be preferable though. But when even the most generic of Necromunda gangs (the Orlocks) are this distinct that might be hard to pull off. More wishful thinking than anything else.
Gangs will be getting upgrade parts from Forge World like in Bloodbowl no doubt there will be female pieces with that.
I dunno..guess I’m the only one not too keen on the Necromunda sculpts..
Do loincloths and sideburns really look badass? Don’t think so..
I’m keeping my fingers crossed for the enforcers tho..please GW, do your best there!!!!
…… what sideburns aren’t badarse…… scurries off to the mirror with razor
All these models look good, I’m definitely going to splurge on Necromunda at some point
Orlocks were my first gang, cannot say I like the re-imagining they look to formal and clean, more like chunky pirates. Necromunda’s roll out and format leaves me cold.
The Terminators look a lot nicer in this picture. I like the praetor, still wild but keeping the muted wolfiness of the 30k look
Love these guys, although I’d probably paint them a bit less rigidly. I like them to look like they scavenge gear and equipment. Those Scum look wicked as well.
@nakchak
Always loved the fluff behind the Spyrers. Did you ever read the novella ‘Descent’? It was the final story in ‘Status: Deadzone’.
The Orlocks disappoint. They are allrightish and no exciting at all.
The Orlocks never were particularly extravagant. They were always the least outlandish looking gang, that was what I liked about them. These are a great remagining
I loved the Orlocks figures until someone pointed out the loincloths. Now my eyes just keep on coming back to them and asking whhhyyyy??!! They seem to be totally unnecessary.
It will be interesting how the other gangs turn out.
That’s an asbestos loincloth so they don’t burn their bits when welding….
The original Orlocks had them as well 🙂
I’m getting stuck into the Goliaths right now, but I like this load of Orlocks (sorry, had to) a lot better.
Went with Goliaths now as well, look like alot of fun to paint. Really looking fwd to Cawdor and Scavvies though
With the other two they’ve shown, I immediately knew that we were seeing Escher and Goliaths again. But I don’t think I’d have recognized the Orlocks without the label.
That’s neither here nor there- the minis look quite nice.
I like them all except the heavy – why a Harpoon? I thought Orlocks ran the weapon factories?
I’m going to put Genestealer Cult heads on them 🙂
I wonder how the Mad Robot ‘Sons of Anarchy Heads’ would look as a head-swap.
The Bounty Hunters are a bit uninspiring compared to the artwork out there for 40k rogues. The Arbites/ Enforcers are going to be so awesome…
Harpoon so you can shout “GET OVER HERE!” every time it hits. It can’t just be me? 🙂
Yeah the harpoon looks a bit akward, used to seeing heavy stubbers and down sized heavy bolters .. harpoons for scavvies i say 🙂
the new necromunda figures look fabulous.
I’m seeing this everywhere people are talking about necromunda. Perhaps the main thing GW are doing wrong is failing to communicate, because people still aren’t aware of some of the good stuff they do.
Everyone is saying they are disappointed they will have to buy all of the gang wars supplements to play other gangs.
Full rules for playing other gangs not in the core box were available as a free download from release. You can find them here: https://necromunda.com.
Like these sculpts and how they have kept their style from the originals, always thought with the loin cloth, waste coats and bandanas they had that Apache Indian look about them.
Now just waiting for my favorite House; Delaque which is around 12 months away:(
12 months?? Oh damn .. ah well, theres always the legacy rules. Was hoping to get everyone onboard with new figs alot sooner though
Has the release schedule been announced at all? I know I saw somewhere saying it was going to be 1 gang per quarter but that seems extremely slow to the extent it would be detrimental to the game.
Anyway, I’d have thought with Orlocks being released, Delaque would be the next one due to the gang rivalry; they both have a big grudge against one another.
That in turn would leave Cawdor (who seem to hate all houses) vs Van Saar; a religous close combat house vs a tech shooty one.
I don’t think it has, only rumours really. GW don’t really announce release schedules as such. I think I might have read somewhere that all the gangs from the original will be released within the first 12 months
Necromunda is going to leave me poor and destitute
Maybe I will be able to build a shelter from the boxes.
