New 40K & Age Of Sigmar Kits & Characters To Look Forward To Next Month
November 24, 2017 by brennon
Games Workshop has given folks a look ahead to what they can pick up over the next couple of weeks going into December and heading towards Christmas. We'll start off with what's new for Age Of Sigmar, namely a new variant of the Lord-Celestant.
The Lord-Celestant now gets himself a shield and a bare head for when you want your commander to show his face. I'm not entirely convinced by the facial details here, I think he looks particularly 'blocky' and maybe a bit too macho. It could also be the painting which is throwing it off a tad perhaps?
Either way, it's nice to have new commander options for your games and hopefully they start to explore this with other armies too. Alternative leaders for the Ironjawz and such would be ace.
Angels Of Death
Next up we have some Angels of Death and alternative Lieutenant models for both the Blood Angels...
...and the Dark Angels in Warhammer 40,000. I think that both of them are very much in keeping with the character of their forces, especially this sly looking Dark Angel.
You just know there's a secret or two he's keeping from his fellow Space Marines. It's nice seeing them in the larger Primaris Space Marine armour as well so we've got more character choice going forward.
Easy Build Kits
In addition to those characters, Games Workshop is also making two new Easy Build Kits. The first of them is their Aggressor Kit which comes with some of their heavily armed and armoured Primaris Space Marines.
This could be handy for someone looking to bulk out a squad of Space Marines with a few extra models, rather than splurging for an entirely new set. I always use these kits as testing grounds for paint schemes and whether or not I'm going to like painting an army.
You will also be able to pick up their twelve-part Redemptor Dreadnought Easy Build kit which is kinda awesome.
Obviously, this kit will be limited in the posing options and weapons you can choose but if you just want to throw another Dreadnought into the mix and you don't mind about that then this is another good avenue to explore.
Death Guard
The Death Guard are also back in force with some new options to help expand your force. Leading the way we have this strange daemonic contraption, the Myphitic Blight-hauler.
I'm not entirely sure what to make of it as a creation but it certainly looks like something you'd want to start adding some extra firepower down onto the table. I like the mix of the organic and the synthetic about it and it could be a lot of fun to paint up.
New Blightlord Terminators are also coming to join the fighting as well armed with their oozing and sickening weapons that would no doubt kill you soon after even if the first strike didn't.
There's also a new Lord of Contagion wielding a manreaper scythe so if you wanted to get one of those into your army now is your chance. Once again, I'm not overawed by the facial details of the character and I think a helmet or headswap might be in order.
One Man Army
Finally, and decidedly the coolest of these announcements is that we're going to be seeing Sly Marbo return (or as the internet said, he wasn't gone, he was simply waiting to strike).
Rules for him will be coming out soon and you'll be able to drop him into your Astra Militarum army as a special character, ready to bring death and destruction to anything he faces off against. I think they've nailed this sculpt and I can imagine a fair few dioramas springing up around him.
If I had the skills I'd do a 'Cool Guys Don't Look At Explosions' vignette where there's an exploding Ork vehicle behind him and Ork bodies everywhere. Maybe even a bit of backlighting as the explosion washes over him. Ah the dreams I'll never fulfil.
What do you make of these new offerings?

Just remember Sly , “They drew first blood”.
Really love the mini
Great job on Sly and I love the creepy smiley Blightlord Terminator.
Interesting. More Easy Build kits and some are for units that didn’t have models before this. I wonder if eventually those Death Guard units get multipart plastic kits as well.
Think the new sigmarine looks like a stunted version of the 40k emperor….
The cool thing about the new Sly Marbo is that they gave him Snake Plissken’s Uzi. Oh yes they did. So, add an eyepatch and a greenstuff hairdo, and we’re suddenly looking at a whole new level of awesome.
And they put Audrey 2 from Little Shop of Horros on his base.
Cobra from Hasslefree is Snake Plissken!
I might have to get that Sly Marbo. Just too good to pass up.
Glad that we’re getting more easy build stuff. But I’m truly surprised that it seems like some of the more resent kits. Wouldn’t they be better for older kits so they can be updated and be fresher in buyers minds?
That sly mini is terrible lol.
First, that is the worst musculature I’ve seen on any mini in a long time, and only made worse by the ‘Studio Mid-School’ shading. Second, the left arm looks broken in two places, which has caused the left hand to swell to the size of the character’s head! Are those scars on his forearm, or has he just undergone some leeching to bring down the swelling? And of course, in keeping with GW’s new ‘style’, he just looks fat and silly, particularly with that stilted foot-on-orc-head pose. Hmmm… where could I start if I were to suggest a better model?… Read more »
I have to agree on the muscle anatomy. One look at the model and thought “Argh! What the hell is going on with his arm?!”
I’d have thought that anyone who paints or sculpts professionally would, at some point in their career, have spent five minutes looking at reference material so the end result looked pretty much like a human arm.
Obviously, Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dali get passes, but I’m pretty sure that this isn’t supposed to be an Impressionist sculpt of Marble.
Marbo… seriously, autocorrect… what were you thinking?
Definatly, well spoken @cpauls1
Thanks @hatamoto and @chillreaper . For a minute there I thought I was looking at a different model from everyone else.
Marbo is a must for me, i’m not fussed by the Primaris, they haven’t grabbed my attention at all since 8th dropped, which i find a little strange as i’ve always been a fan of the marines all the way back to Rogue Trader.
Is it me or is that Tommy Wiseau in the gold armour?
Didn’t notice that but it does look like him.
Oh, hi Sigmar!
…and somebody pointed out that the new Alfred Batman Butler figure looks like Ron Mael from Sparks.
I think Beasts of War should have had an Award Category called ‘Best Unintentional Lookalike Personality Figure’
and Sly Marbo doesn’t because he is purposely based on an existing character/actor
Looks like Dolph Lundgren. It is quite a …far cry… away from Sylvester Stallone.
The model is a pastiche of several Eighties action hero/one man army characters and tropes. The obvious overall nod to Rambo (Marbo is even an anagram) Dolph Lundgren’s hairstyle, Snake Plisskin’s gun, and facial features slightly reminiscent of Arnie in the character of Dutch from Predator, right down to the cigar that character seemed to love smoking, even in an active combat zone.
As a Catachan, musculature is of course ridiculously exaggerated, even more so than that of the actors was at the time.
Finally get the blight hauler, I’ve been looking forward to this one! That should be all the Death Guard released now, just got to paint all of it now… The Dark Angel Primaris is great too and they’ll be next for me after DG, hopefully we’ll see some sort of upgrade sprue for primaris that include robes as my green stuff skills for robes aren’t too amazing. Love Sly Marbo, I’m not a guard player but might just buy it for the model, great fun!
love the new figures.
The Sly figure is awesome 🙂
Anvil Industries have started doing Jungle Fighter bits and Mad Robot have their ‘Rescue Team’ Heads. I wonder is it now possible to do a decent Catachan Platoon ?
You always could, Catachans never went anywhere.

And that’s a Dark Angel who loves his job 🙂 🙂 🙂
Most of those Space Marines run about Screaming or Gurning :-O
That’s the smile of someone who hasn’t yet been told that their chapter is a bunch of traitors…
I’m liking them. Some new Orlocks and Heresy Wolves were also previewed on Warhammer Community:

I’m loving the new Orlocks. GW are knocking it out of the park with the new Necromunda gangs
The orlock re-imaging is the complete opposite of the goliath for me, uninspired, unnecessary and dull. Look like poor starcraft remodels, fortunately I have plenty of the originals.
The Death Guard releases are killing me. I was hyped for the army release and so far maybe one in four units have caught my eye. The rest are atrocious. When was the decision made to model smoke onto minis? Exhaust pipes and vents had been looking fine for years without it. It never looks right and just clutters the mini. Likewise for all the dripping slime. Move the pose at all and your drips are suddenly defying gravity. Most of those can at least be clipped off (and the Nurglings excluded completely) but this pink tentacle fetish that GW… Read more »
Mixed bag, Sly is great the plant equally so. I really like the blight crawlers, and mostly the terminator lords face is …. a bit special. Most of the marines are fairly standard and solid. Blood angel pose is terrible.
*sigh* Ho-hum, the only new thing for AOS is yet another Sigmarine? Bo-ring. I couldn’t care less about them.
Why does 40K get all the good releases?
I’d like to see the Slaaneshis return in a big way, politically incorrect exposed breasts and all.
And more bizarre creations for the Lord Of Change’s army. Maybe something sort of Lovecraftian?
I was saying the same thing today – Age of Sigmar has been very quiet of late. Although they have teased some potential Death releases next year. I think we’re just in a phase where GW are trying to get new 40k up and running and it’s probably taking up a lot of resources
