Chain Of Command – An Introduction
November 6, 2017 by johnlyons
Richard from Too Fat Lardies has returned again in the studio to talk about Chain of Command.
Chain of Command is a simple rule system for world war II combat designed for platoon sized actions with some additional support. By playing a company on each side you can guarantee a fun game for your play, using the unique command and control system which presents the player with the battleifled decisions made by the historical counterpart.
There are many scenarios for Chain of Command, and with history constantly being made you will never run out of ideas for your games, you can find them here you can also find a huge collection of FREE army lists on the Too Fat Lardies Forums.
What historical event would you love to play with Chain of Command?

Now I’m a Bolt Action kind of guy, but a lot of the guys around here have been switching to Chain of Command lately. I’m not sure I dig the dice mechanic, just seems like it could go horribly wrong for me right at the start, and there’d be nothing I could do.
That’s war for you
I do like TFL’s approach and many other companies to gaming. Lots of products done for the love wargaming and given to players for free . The supplements don’t need to be big colourful affairs. Just as long as they have the info that’s all you need.
I must admit the Spanish Civil War supplements for CoC do interest me
I was surprised and kinda happy John didn’t bring up the eternal question of ‘what scale’ to which I am sure Rich’s answer would have been ‘Whatever you want’
CoC SCW using Empress minis is high on my list of projects I’ll likely never get round to
CofC is by far imho the best set of WW2 skirmish rules on the market.
Yep
Agree
Nice, well that’s what I was hoping for. More Lard content and a Chain of Command series from the very start.
Richard is like that really cool Uncle figure I think everyone has (and if you don’t, you need). Loads of passion but no really hammy over-the-top enthusiasm.
Looking forward to learning more about this system. Please make this a proper series guys. 🙂
the big unit game would make a great video guys ?
Chain of Command is my rule set of choice for WW2 skirmish.
Love Chain of Command. A very nice system for WW2 and everyone in our area switched from Bolt Action to CoC as soon as we saw the rules. It’s much more in depth you really feel like a Lieutenant positioning your men while trying to keep them alive. The shock system is excellent and very similar to Sharp Practice which is great for people looking to expand their historical periods without learning an entirely new set of mechanics. One thing I absolutely love about TooFatLardies is that they have so much free stuff. They have lists for almost any theater… Read more »
Great to see more CoC on display. Love the game for both ease of play and great outcomes. Really feels like commanding a platoon.
Really looking forward to this. I have copy of the rules and in the middle of painting some Canadians. The end of this vid hints at a Let’s Play session. Hoping this is the case.
Excellent set of rules. TFL games are done very well. NoW needs to continue this series and cover more of their games. Charlie Dont Surf is a set I’d like to see next. Keep up the good work TFL!
Really looking forward to a let’s play.
Have dusted off my Copplestone Chinese warlord armies which I think will work well with CoC.
I played my first game of this tonight. I really liked it. I will be picking it up. I really like the way it works. The actions that leaders get really worked well. The deployment system is like a game within a game. The command system is fine once you get used to it, just use different colored dice. I found myself placing them next to the ordered units like in BA. The double and triple six mechanic really demonstrated the ebb and flow of battle very well. At one point my opponent had three goes(turns) in a row, 2… Read more »
