I know you are doing these for the tabletop and a series on Tank War but, could you try the tanks in different looks? The Allied tanks will compare differently than the Germans with the “brighter” paint. It is a bit of having your cake and eating it too, this is such a great opportunity to check out how the different schemes react to the various products.
Cheers and keep up the awesome work and updates.
Thnx for the update.. Maybe you think by yourself, again he ask too much, but is it maybe an idea to show us all the 3 shades of Quickshade? That beside the one that doesnt has any we can see the difference very good i hope… Looking forward to tomorrow 🙂
I would try the soft tone myself,
strong tone all day long, also I’m glad to see that cat got a replacement barrel the other was banjaxed 😉
I think which dip would be best would vary by the color of each tank. The darker tanks, like the Shermans, could be overwhelmed by the black of the dark tone. The sepia of Soft Tone would shade while “maintaining” the showroom clean look that they have now. If you wanted more of a grubby unwashed look then the Brown of Strong Tone would be better. For the lighter German tanks, I think that Soft tone would give a nice lightly dirtied look, the Strong tone a very dirty look, and the black of the Dark tone would just be… Read more »
I think you should start tomorrow morning by figuring out which day it is. :p
I will write it on my arm 🙂
Strong tone for me. Loving this series and can’t wait to see the big battle finale in due course
A half mile duck would be pretty epic. 🙂
fabulous john.
John,
It might delay you, but I’d definitely recommend glass varnishing before quickshading the vehicles. It helps the washes settle only in recessed and not pool up or shade the large flat panels.
Always do it for my FoW tanks.
The quick shade is a gloss. It shouldn’t pool too badly unless he’s being heavy handed and part of the application is removing the excess
It doesn’t really matter that much if the application is a gloss, vs. the surface it is being applied to. When you gloss varnish a surface, it smooths many of the small surface imperfections. This gives a very flat surface with very little for the shade to adhere to on the flatter surfaces. As a result, it tends to recede into just the cracks and crevaces as it drives. Basically the same reason why you gloss-varnish a surface before applying a decal, it gives a flatter surface for the decal to adhere to. Without the varnish, there are often micro-bumps… Read more »
I would go with a strong tone of the American tanks and the soft tone on the Germans. Given that the American tanks are already darker I don’t think the soft tone would show up and the Germans have an overall light paint scheme that the strong tone would over power it and just make it look dirty.
second that
I would go for strong tone for the American tanks and soft tone for the German Tanks, dark tone for all the metal parts.
