North Star Open Pre-Orders For Oathmark’s Dwarf Army
October 14, 2017 by brennon
Pre-Orders have now opened for the North Star & Osprey Games collaboration for Oathmark, the new Fantasy mass battle game coming soon. Here we have the Dwarf contingent...
Pre-Orders focus in around the new plastic kits as well as some of the metal characters you can use to bolster your force. The little chap there is Halwende the Hammer who was sculpted by Bob Naismith and will never be on sale beyond this pre-order period where he will be included with a number of different bundles.
Away from that, the plastic set contains thirty models which can be armed in all manner of different configurations with hand weapons and shields, spears, bows and the like.
We've talked a little bit about some of the metal characters over the past few days as well and they are also up for grabs as part of the collection including the likes of the Dwarf King...
...and the consistently amazing looking Dwarf Wizard as well.
With these models looking as good as they do I can't wait to see what they do for the Goblins in more depth, the Humans and of course the Elves.
Are you going to be jumping in on these pre-orders?

Will the metals be available on their own at release (other then that special preorder one)? They are only in the bundles at the moment.
Look at that dwarf wizard …… come on guys do a crossover to frostgrave ….. please
Surely you just buy and use in frostgrave? I don’t like the system but the minis and being mini agnostic are big plusses for it
I son’t play frostgrave but I have told my frostgrave loving friends that the only way i will play it is if they do a proper dwrf wizard faction…..As I am a Dwarf Evangellist ….(I tried to put that on the last census but there wasn’t a box) I try to push the dwarfifying of all non historical games systems……. and if I convert enough ione day I will get a seat and the great dwarven Brew hall in the sky …. honest 😉
Do proper dwarfs have wizards?
Well traditionally* no, only naughty ones do .However in modern fantasy worlds they are more “progressive” and dwarfs are wizards. Better ones than Elves actually, necause they are dwarfs.
* By traditional I am referring to 20th century tropes, for the love of Grimnar , before the stampede starts to tell me how wrong I am, I am aware that it can be interpreted in traditional Teutonic and Scandinavian Mythological cycles that dwarfs (or dwarf equivalents) did practice magic….. So please don’t beat me up.
Do you hear that sound? That’s the sound of my wallet crying
Those are some really nice looking dwarves. Come think of, we have seen lot of new dwarves while elves haven’t gotten much love.
In a time of questionable world choices maybe the fantasy world is compensating by making good choices 😛
*Rises to feet an claps loudly* …… Knew I liked you for a reason 😀
There is a reason for that ……….
Dwarves look great. Give us some Kobolds though. Nobody makes nice Kobolds.
I hope you are talking old style kobolds here and not those new fangled I look like a lizard kobolds……
Not ashamed to say I quite like the newer idea of lizard-like kobolds. Lizard dog humanoid crossbreed is about right IMO.
I already have two unfinished Dwarf armies. But I really want these.
Nothing exceeds like excess 😀
This is the first time in my life I’ve ever wanted to create a dwarf army. The dwarf wizard is a delight.
Are their eyebrows so thick and heavy that they can’t look more than 5 feet in front of them? Nice figures but they need a more level view, imo.
You are aware of the dwarf sonar bulb organ that they have in their skull just above their eyes? It helps them navigate in the dark …. Honest ….. would I lie to you ???? 🙂
If only they weren’t dwarves.
mate if you can get to the computer again .. leave your address and we’ll get an ambulance there as soon as posssible ……. You are obviously in dire need of medical attention 😛
I love the figures.. they have a very nice LOTR feel to them, and by that I mean the books not the movies. (Chainmail armour, dark ages feel) …but the timing of the release is a bit strange? Wouldn’t you want to release at least two armies and a set of rules at once?
@wtungsten – I _think_ (and don’t quote me on this) that they are planning on releasing a game in a little while (next year?). But they’re not a big enough company to do everything at once. And perhaps more to the point… They know that people can make use of these now – so why not sell them and let people do so? It’s not like there are no other fantasy games featuring dwarves on the market so the timing isn’t as important as it would be if they were attempting to release a new game complete with several new… Read more »
I guess I just really want to see the goblins :).
I was just surprised that miniatures specifically branded as for a new game come out before the game comes out.
I think the rules are from Osprey and the figures from Northstar. If Osprey are doing the rules it’s just going to depend when it falls in their print run
Nice work, now let’s see the goblins!
Here’s the authors blog:

Joe says the rules are still in early development. No release date of in sight yet.
He’s also said it’ll be far more Tolkienish, and not like Warhammer. We’ll see I guess.
There is a game called Kobold and Cobblestones coming from Osprey in the next couple days which seems a bit like Mordheim
You sure get a lot of dwarves for the price, and the pre-order price is great!
Do we know how long the preorder time is?
Oct 23?
Tempted to get at least a box of the plastics just based on the Frostgrave plastic kits. Might even grab a character or two.
Some pics of the goblins can be found here http://wargameterrain.blogspot.com.au/2017/04/northstar-miniatures-plastic-fantasy.html?m=1
