Games Workshop’s Citadel Paint App Releases This Weekend
September 15, 2017 by brennon
Games Workshop is releasing their Citadel Paint App this weekend for you to download and play around with. It's totally free and is lauded as the ultimate companion for a painter using the Citadel Range.
The app is going to be available across a number of different devices over the next twenty-four hours and you can use the links below to find the right version for you...
The app gives you options for which base coats to choose from and allows you to find out which colours will work best for the additional stages after the base coat including shading, highlighting and more. After a quick tinker around in the app, it also focuses in on teaching you about the basic techniques you need and offers up advice too.
Neat Features
One of the neat things that the app also does is allow you to use your phone or tablet's camera to focus in on the colours on a particular model and it then tells you what colour you should use to replicate that; it's pretty neat.
Another cool option is the ability to paint by miniature. You simply choose a miniature from their range and it will tell you all the paints you need to add to the model.
Prize Draw
With the release of the app, the folks at Games Workshop are also running a competition to win every single Base, Shade and Layer paint in the Citadel Paint range.
All anyone has to do to enter is download the app to their device. Then, next week from Monday to Friday, one person each day will win this prize!
That is certainly pretty awesome as far as prizes go and well worth downloading the app just to give it a try.
Will you be giving this a go?

They have also done a couple of mildly humourous videos

I quite enjoyed those, they can do a miniseries following Duncans painting tutorials like what the minis think before and after they are painted and so on.
yep, the new GW definitely has a great sense of humour 🙂
Can I say that this is better than I was expecting ? The colour matching camera is cool. I don’t have any miniatures at hand to test accuracy, but it did recommend 3 colours that were fairly close to the random objects I used. Definitely a great feature to have. The paint selections per model is a bit limited and unwieldy but it gets the job done. It does not explain in which order you should paint the model, so that is something you need to learn yourself. However you could use it to get hints on how to paint… Read more »
Just downloaded onto my kindle fire and it really looks good. I do have a couple of minor issues that they may work out (and will probably need to work out) once the range of minis grow. Being new to GW and 40k I would not know where to find the mini that I want to paint from a certain faction with out knowing the name they are using. With the Start Collecting box sets GW have them broken out by factions, so the Tau set has the minis listed on the side of the box (I just did purchase… Read more »
yep, I agree.
Trying to find a specific faction marine is difficult.
Then again … I suppose the models are there to show of the colour scheme so it might not matter much.
OTOH … they do have several plague marine variants and only the basic primaris marines.
One thing I want is a bit more of the faction guides. So far it has been a good basic guide.
Right, I have downloaded it and overall it’s quite good, although there’s a few features I would like to see. The inventory section really needs options for filtering the paints. At the moment it’s a single, alphabetical list of the entire range. I would like to be able to filter on a range of attributes including paint types, colours and maybe other attributes such as metallic. Also it would be useful to be able to select how many pots of a particular colour you have rather than just a yes or no as to whether you have the paint or… Read more »
It is a nice app! Especially considering this is their first go.
There is plenty of room for improvement, for example
I would like to see an option to tile instead of using lists on every menu.
Nice tool… but they translated the colours’ names!!! But they are not translated when you buy them at a Games Workshop store.
Not the best feature if you aim at someone new or inexperienced.
Well they added more since yesterday. Will come in handy when painting shadespire for sure!!
