Hah, your experience is very similar to my own when I use my (vastly simpler) Silhouette to cut sheets of plasticard. Is the carrier sheet lined up correctly? How do I stop the card warping as pressure is applied? How do I stop it moving about on the carrier sheet and messing up the cut? At least those kind of ‘print jobs’ are usually wrapped up in two hours of eyeballing it suspiciously! As for the filament reel, it might be a good idea to find a way to have it mounted higher than the machine (perhaps on an A… Read more »
@siygess i find it easier to just feed plasticard into my portrait, only use the carrier sheets when cutting stencils….
One thing i have found saves a lot of time is to use the pen attachement and draw onto card, then cut it, mainly to check that i havnt forgotten to weld anything in the crappy studio, i mainly use inkscape now and import as an svg into studio then hit print…
I’m watching this with interest! I keep wanting to make my own tokens etc but never justify the outlay.
currently thinking about the difference between laser cutters and 3d printers and which would be more useful too
I’m loving these vlogs. Really want to try out 3D printing and I’m currently on the fence, tempted to just bite the bullet and next time missus asks me what I want for Christmas just say a Creality CR-10.
Wow I just thought my pc broke, is anyone else getting this extremely pixelated picture
It does mention in the blurb there are problems at the start of the video
I’m enjoying these vlogs, little and often works well for me. I’ve been so tempted in the past to give this a go but haven’t managed to pluck up the courage. There’s so many different options out there I’m not really sure where I’m going with it. These vlogs are perfect as I can see where you’ve gone right and wrong and it gives me a bit more confidence.
Yes, those seem to be problems quite specific to your printer. My Printrbot does a bed leveling correction before every print. Temperature control seems to be a consistent problem between all printers. If your print cools down too quickly then it pulls away from the bed. I got the optional headed bed upgrade for my printer and it has a lot less problems with that now. Printing has always been a finicky business; even ink and paper isn’t perfect yet. So like I said, the time you put into making it work really takes over, and it becomes a hobby… Read more »
wow almost got seasick at 1080p, lol @warzan some tips again , I leveld my printbed 1 time, (with piece of paper between bed and printhead) and know i have printed 4 kilo without ever touching it on my I3 mega. plz print the cable protect mod !! https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2186997 I have the ultrabase bed, it works so much better, contact anycubic for upgrade!! you will love it. Most of time warping is a heating problem !! gcode file names : always use _ no spatie,, so like scoby_velma_4h Cut the filiamant PLA at 45 degree angle before putting it in.… Read more »
We printed a lot of stuff during the last year. My wife is very excited about it and trys to print something for everything. So we have for example a holder for the aquarium heater, a special end piece for the protein skimmer of our aquarium and of course something game related for me…
I described it in the following thread:
http://www.beastsofwar.com/groups/painting/forum/topic/3d-printed-terrain/
@warzan we use a simple glue stick for better adhesion.
You need to start a new segment called “As the Filament Flows” 🙂 The leveling should not be required for each print. If you do, then some better way of leveling is required. This is exactly why I purchased a printer with self leveling as I have seen others with issues. I am interested to see how the slot prints and you clean it. I have not always received the results that I have wanted and in the past printed two parts if there was to be a void in the middle. First, you don’t need to have and stands… Read more »
I am very much enjoying the VLOG. Still a newbee, 4th week and looking to start to think toward learning CAD. The software you used may just be the intro point I was looking for. Thanks!
Warren, one tip for these Vlogs… you need a better microphone. I’ve found to listen to these and hear you I need to crank the volume WAAAAAY up, and then if I switch to another audio source, I nearly blow out my speakers.
@warzan — did some research. Brim should have worked. Can you adjust the first layer to be hotter than the rest. Also, try using Blue Tape instead of creating a skirt. You can also use a glue stick believe it or not.
I do believe the gaps you are seeing in the skirt is because you do not have a good feed on the filament. I would check thingverse for a better spooler mount you can print.
It is a journey, but it will be fun
You need to find a way to measure the temp of you bed. Something is not right. The other option is using standard 2″ white foam is to create an enclosure to keep more heat in and around your part. That brim is not working seems odd to me.
If you are using PLA you should not need an enclosure. What is your bed temp? With PLA you do not need a high temp at all. I know several people who print without it. I usually use 50 degrees. I saw some lifting on one edge of your print (not the skirt) use the hair spray it works really well with the build tack (the black covering on your print bed). The other thing about bed leveling that I noticed is that you are doing it with a cool bed. You need to do it when the bed is… Read more »
One of the times I wish I edit mode
As alt to Blue Tape, is this –> https://www.buildtak.com/
If you are having the first layer sticking, something like above will work or Blue Tape
look as if you will get things sorted.
I really appreciate the time and energy you folks are devoting to this topic. Like many, I have long been interested in this technology. You have me eagerly awaiting the next installment.
Absolutely! I’ve got no skills when it comes to designing, IT etc, so this is a real great learning experience. Just getting to grips with what the beginner issues are has been really interesting!
You are a good dad Warren, and these videos are tops too
damn that printer noise must be so bad to be working next to.
I am glad my flashforge does not make anything close to that constant horrible whine.
Might be the microphone though.
Even Microsoft had a ton of problems adjusting to filenames with spaces and it has taken quite a while before most programs could handle long file names as well …
So yeah, not surprised the printer had issues finding the file.
I suspect the printer prefers the classic DOS style filenames ( 8 characters name + 3 characters as file extension ).
(people still remember DOS, right ? or am I that old ? 😉 )
I remember …. I remember
@warzan I’m not a 3d printer or all that technical but I did notice that after spending all that time levelling the bed the first thing you did when standing up was to lean on the desk and keep coming back and leaning on it more. Could this be affecting your levelling?
I’m watching back in time so I get to see WHY some remedies were made in the first place. This must be how a Farseer feels…
