Fantasy Flight Games Announce Battle For Rokugan

Fans of The Legend of the Five Rings universe will be excited to hear the latest news from Fantasy Flight Games. They've announced a new strategic board game, Battle For Rokugan!
Here's some more information about the game from FFG...
"Battle for Rokugan puts two to five players in the roles of Rokugani daimyō, fighting for territory in the early days of the Emerald Empire. The beautiful game transports players to this new world ready to explore.
The land of Rokugan is divided into territories that belong to each of the seven honourable clans: Crab, Crane, Dragon, Phoenix, Lion, Scorpion, and Unicorn, that have been battling for dominance since their foundation by the Kami.
Outside these walls are several unclaimed territories, including the mysterious Shadowlands that easily tempt those who desire power no matter the cost. The players' ultimate goal is to conquer as many of Rokugan's provinces as possible to gain honour for their clan and prove that their people are truly superior, and the only clan fit to guide the Empire.
By taking control of these territories, the clan leaders of Rokugan hope to prove their clan's superiority and bring the Emperor's favour to their people."
The game appears to be a mix of mechanics, old and new, based on the Game Of Thrones Board Game. That has a similar vibe to this although throughout this game they appear to have changed and tweaked mechanics to make it a little more enjoyable for those who find themselves stuck in a hole.
One of the interesting aspects of the game also comes in when a leader and clan has been wiped from the board...
"However, if a player has lost all their provinces and has no control tokens on the board, they become wandering ronin who must fight to regain their land and honour. During a ronin’s placement phase, they may place army tokens on any land border, but without a home or influence, the ronin cannot play raid or diplomacy tokens.
This continues until the ronin is able to reclaim a province. As the Battle for Rokugan rages on, more than one group is bound to be lost in the clans’ fight for dominance."
The game also comes with some interesting secret objectives thrown into the mix which is always good in a game like this, spinning things around and making sure that it's never the same game each time.
You can find out more about the game on the link above where they go into great detail about the way the game plays.

Overlap with Rising Sun? They seem similar.
ooh nice one! good thing my birthday’s coming up 🙂
That looks cool, definitely something I could see playing against my old 5 Rings buddies, with old clan rivalries coming back to the fore.
This looks like it might be Rising Sun: Fixed. I’m looking forward to seeing how this fleshes out.
Designers are different, so I would expect different gameplay.
Theme mechanics.
