Warlord Glide in on Horsas to Take Pegasus Bridge
October 10, 2013 by dracs
To capture Pegasus Bridge troops were brought in in large gliding Horsa aircraft. Now, to back up their release of the Battle for Pegasus Bridge box set, Warlord have released these useful gliders to bring your troops to where they are needed.
Capable of transporting 30 troops, a jeep, or a 6 pounder anti-tank gun, the Horsas would be towed to where their contents were needed, before gliding down and landing with relative precision.
Six Horsas were used to deliver the troops who would fight for Pegasus Bridge, but they still saw a lot of use after, air lifting men and artillery across the English Channel.
Will you glide your way to victory?
Landing with relative precision…until the bottom was torn off. It was a hell of a risk just taking a ride in one of these things, let alone staging an invasion from one. Makes you think about the guys who risked their lives being towed past anti-air, just so they could risk their lives landing (possibly crashing), just so they could risk their lives in whatever battle it was taking them to, usually cut off from their own front lines. Greatest generation indeed.
Built to come apart on landing
I understand the large unwieldy footprint that a 1/56 Horsa would have on the table but it will look a tad silly having 28mm minis running out of a 1/72 glider.
Bit like SMs and Rhinos lol
I’d be curious to see how they look on a 28mm table. At Warlord were up front and admitted they are the wrong scale.
It’s a hard call, I take their word for it that 1/56 is too big. But I agree with Chibi, to see your Paras standing next to them will be a bit odd
Yeah I can see Warlord’s point about the footprint
As a scale aircraft modeller am all too familiar with how much space a 1/48 scale single seater can take up
I mostly do 1/72 because of display space (lack thereof)
The wingspan of a glider will take up half the table! lol
Here is what you get in the box (nb is the Italeri kit reboxed by Airfix but the decals are the same as the Italeri repop)

Dimensions are given as 29cm. Whether that is the length or wingspan it doesn’t say
A scale conversion means the dimension will be 37.286 cm in 1/56
Of course getting a Horsa in 28mm is gonna be tricky if not impossible and I dread how much an even larger 1/48 kit would cost!
