Black Library Preview Adepta Sororitas Codex
October 10, 2013 by brennon
The Black Library have previewed the latest Codex to arrive on the digital editions listings. This time around the Sisters of Battle or Adepta Sororitas are the focus with a fully updated codex bringing them into 6th Edition.
The first thing to note is this amazing artwork that now graces the cover. I love the way they have portrayed the Sisters of Battle here giving them a much needed update and still keeping them looking different from just 'humans in power armour'. They have managed to keep them looking brutal and warlike which I do enjoy!
As well as that they have previewed some interesting snippets from the digital book itself. Above you can see the Sisters of Battle Squad itself and some of it's options alongside Apocalypse formations and also some of the Relics that will be on offer to these warrior women.
It all looks like a lot of attention has been put into making them an army to be reckoned with and I personally can't wait to dive in and give this one a read. I have always wanted to play an army that is a little bit different and Adepta Sororitas has always been a cool looking army to consider.
The real question now is where to Games Workshop go from here? With a new digital codex and some support for the army AND an update on the website itself to bring their segment up to date could we be seeing a plastic squad of Battle Sisters in the near future alongside a plastic blister pack Cannoness?
Here's what I reckon could be in the box...
"This box contains enough components to make ten Sisters of Battle including options for Heavy Bolter, Flamer, Multi-Melta and Storm Bolter armed models"
...and then they'll price it around £30 in keeping with their current pricing model. Remember take all this with a massive truck load of salt as I'm just speculating here but this would be ace to see!
Will you be collecting these Sisters?

I remember turning up one day for a 2vs2 game, and there on the otherside of the floor, was an entire SoB army, fully painted up. There were a few “this counts as” models in the form of Esher gangers, but quite how my friend managed to do this (15 or 16 at the time) without knowing about I don’t know. Personally, I don’t think we’ll see a new army any time soon; Tyranids seem to be the next army to arrive, and I very much doubt we’ll see a new range of SoB models before an Imperial guard codex… Read more »
Apparently they have managed to solve the problems with this plastic process. When it comes to creating models with flowing cloaks they have done a lot of them for Warhammer Fantasy right now.
As for the range itself I could certainly see them bringing out maybe one boxed set and one HQ model but pretty much nothing else. Just to entice people into buying both the ‘dex and some new models. I know I would buy new SoB in a heartbeat.

Look! GW stuff I’m not buying any more.
I couldn’t give two shakes of a dead dogs dick. Can you cover something good from companies we are actually going to buy from that support the wargaming community please instead of more overpriced shite from this gang of ass clowns? Many thanks 🙂
Plenty of other stories today and throughout the week from many other companies so take your pick chum.

@brennon don’t be discouraged matey, as always, price is relative to the buyer, one mans overpriced, is another’s affordable. And im very much enjoying the the VARIED content of the site, something for everyone.
You’re hostility toward this isn’t driving a point, but looks more like juvenile desperation. If you are angry with a company/game/ip/whatever, just ignore it and find something else to feast on. Don’t actively protest it among those of us who are genuinely excited for it. It makes you come off as an annoying picketer. BoW isn’t exclusively GW by a long shot. And even if it was, there would be absolutely no reason for you to be here.
I’ll be buying this. I don’t have an AS army (you have to call them AS now. SoB is so last week), but I am very tempted to start a small allied detachment, if only for the fluff.
Wont lie, I quite like the look of it. I’ve wanted Sisters of Battle miniatures or a codex or something for a (very) long time, always been a big fan. Will most certainly buy at least the codex and some miniatures (as long as they don’t turn out ridiculous l ike that Khorne machine and the Centurions).
Always liked the Sisters.
It’s not going to make me buy anything from GW though.
I like the art on the cover. GW have always struggled with their art for female characters IMHO (with the exception of Calpurina). They have somehow made the SoB seem less.. insane? Also the detail on the armour, particularly on the shoulder pad, puts me in mind of Judge Dredd for some reason. Which is a good thing.
It’s made by Anna Steinbauer, a freelancer artist from austria. That was her first (but hopefully not last) work for GW. You can find the cover without the Codex writing here:

Great! Thanks for the link 🙂
Also I just noticed that my engrish am super bad! I clearly just splurged a series of random thoughts about the picture into the text field without any attempt at stringing them together coherently lol
Can we have a battle sister inside a space marine inside another space marine inside a dreadnought inside a dread knight?
Good news for a mate of mine, he collects the Sisters. For me, I am still not buying anything from GW. But it is good to see they came out with a codex for the Sisters, a lot of 40K-guys were waiting for it. As for the digital codices, I have to admit I like them on my iPad (which is turning into a gamer’s treasure cove) to read, but I prefer a hard copy while gaming. My bad, because when the heat is on, I always click the wrong links and stuff. I am also thinking a lot of… Read more »
As a WH40k outsider, SoB have always struck me as an interesting army (I am not tempted, though). Now might be the time to dive in. Their metal models (basic troops anyway) are a tiny bit cheaper than the new Witch Elves … as long as you don’t want leaders or funky weapons, that is 🙂
I am glad they are getting an update, even if it’s just merely an update to the WD codex, I am glad the sisters are getting some love. I agree plastic boxes would be ideal, not only for affordability, but many converters like myself love working with plastics. I won’t be running a sisters army, perse, but a sisters kill-team. For those of you that don’t know, kill-team is a small army skirmish variation of the game of 40k. There’s the GW version used during some gamedays, and a few other third party versions. The idea is running a small… Read more »
Given the price per model of the metals (and being direct only no discounts) I would think a codex release without some sort of change to the mini line would be pointless.
From looking over the internet forums and such it seems like SoB/AS are a favourite of three of the members within the design team sooooo it might not be such a long shot that we see some of them make it to plastic 🙂
So BoW, about your “lets-build-a-40k-army” – you know what we want to see 😀
When the White Dwarf codex came out I came close to starting SOB army, but was put off by the all metal, for the same reason as Nova3k – I need to be able to cut up my models!
If they release a plastic kit I’m in for a small force to act as allies, otherwise I’ll wait and wait and wait….
Also, what Kill Team rules do you use? Are they online?
Heralds of Ruin. Each army gets its own force list, and it has a great necromunda style campaign and XP system. The nice thing about it is it’s still the 6th edition rules, but a few things have been changed to make it play well when scaled down, because the core rules can act a little weird when it’s at that scale. And they also are constantly updating the rules and lists with the releases of new codexes and what not. They also have an active facebook group.

I have always liked the Sisters, I had tried to put a detachment of them together in the past but that was at a time when my funds where low and all the guys i new who played left for out of state collages. I just invested in FoW so this will have to wait.
I’m hearing bad things about the new digital codex. Why doesn’t GW like itself??
I’ve been a SOB player for years and even though people say they’re not a great army at wining with I’ve given my fair share of armies a good going over time and time again. This new codex is just want I’ve been waiting for!! To Battle Ladies the Emperor Commands it!!!
Well I am most disappointed! They took too much away and added…um…um…well they made some things cheaper. Some costs went up though. Why do they keep doing this? They must not like the gaming industry. Maybe they want to sell hats?
