Happy Weekend!
It’s the Weekend!!
I desperately need a holiday… a short escape into the world of hobby will have to do for now!
30 mins in and suddenly I fancy a sausage sandwich for breakfast…
… hang it – I fancy a whole BBQ’d suckling pig!
Happy Weekend! Just managed to fit watching it before setting off for work.; )
Wasn’t sure if there was going to be a weekender this week. Happy Weekend.
Happy weekender after an entertaining Hobby live!
TGIW thank god its the weekend
Arkham Horror LCG is brilliant. Everyone should play it.
Do you know how does it compare to Netrunner and Lord of the Rings LCGs?
@warzan probably a good idea to have put world of warcraft down, I started playing at release in 2004 and still dip in and out 13 years later. Back in the early years, it was not uncommon for me to see the sun rise during a gaming session. Now days probably down to a couple of hours a week.
Great show always marks the start of my weekend. I missed hobby night live last night so I have the bonus of watch that now and watching XLBS tomorrow. Have a great weekend all.
Happy weekend folks!
WoW… yeah… been there lost several years of my life doing high-end raids 4 nights a week.. and for what? Ability to brag about pixels? Was completely not worth it so fully understand why you ducked out early @warzan ! 🙂
Managed to escape and get back to the tabletop… although my wallet isn’t sure that was a good thing! 🙂
I am immune to the charms of WoW, or any online gaming for that matter. Whatever bit of the brain it triggers in most people seems absent from mine.
We have agreed on many things through the years, @redben , but never have I agreed with you quite as completely as I do now. 😀 WoW . . . I just don’t get it.
@warzan: The problem with representing Lovecraft’s creatures in any format is that he didn’t really give full descriptions of anything. The idea was to only give glimpses to them as they are all beyond human comprehension and understanding.
So yeah, alot of what you see in the kickstarter is based on his ideas but the actual look of them is up for debate.
For example, Cthulhu himself is often depicted as having 2 eyes and quite slender, Lovecraft drew a picture of him and he was fat (like a fat dragon or something he said…) and had hundreds of eyes.
I would definitely agree with that, @redyeti – part of the genius of Lovecraft is that monsters and horror are only very loosely described, just enough to let the reader’s own nightmares fill in the rest. Thus, the creatures would probably “look” different to each reader.
“Locking that down” into an actual miniature would be tough.
It’s also the reason there isn’t a good Lovecraft film 🙁
Thanks for putting in the extra effort guys and producing a Weekender on a Hobby Night Week
I gave WoW a very wide berth for exactly that reason. I could see my life being consumed by it.
Reflecting on the experiences shared @24:00. A game in which one could get stuck in a corridor for hours is one that appeals to me, especially perhaps in a roleplaying game, partly because it would be a different experience to those times in the game when things were progressing at pace, be those things a dungeon romp or a Holmesian deduction or whatever. However, the appeal depends to some extent on why one was stuck in the corridor and what the circumstances were. For example, i remember trying to solve the infamous ‘goat puzzle’ in Broken Sword and finally admitting… Read more »
I agree with everything you say @totsuzenheni . I’ve had some great roleplaying experiences where ‘nothing much happened’, because stuff did actually happen: character progression, ad-libbing, jokes, even plot development or ‘world building’.
I would hate to spend a whole session stuck in a corridor because either the mechanics of the game were so slow that it took hours to work through the combat or because the game or DM / GM was happy for us to just get more and more frustrated and bored because we couldn’t work out what we were supposed to be doing.
Happy Saturday – what a week to have been with limited (phone) Internet got a LOT to catch up with
@warzan you should try to get an interview with Sandy Petersen about Cthulu wars he is a very nice bloke, who been in games forever
This one’s on a Saturday for me! Yippee as normally XLBS is Sunday Central Time.
Oh… wait… oops
.. lol
I’d be far more inclined to dive in FOW4 if there was an easy way to get the new unit cards for models I already own. I have Plenty of Shermans and Armored Rifle Platoons to field in the Desert.
a great funny show guys @warzan plays as manimal? the us-imf vehicles look fantastic.
Happy weekend!
Something is amiss: here’s someone that looks like @brennon, sounds like @brennon but, something is missing… oh yes, Ben’s missing a frame!
Well, those Farmers look great, can’t wait to have them!
See you guys tomorow
Guild Ball tempts me so!
Yay! Finally got time to watch!
That Cthulhu War kickstarter…oh dear, that could become costly…*tries to catch her fleeing wallet*
I’m not sure World of Warcraft would really make a great tabletop game. It’s nothing to do with the lore, it’s more that it’s Aesthetically the same as Warhammer Fantasy/Age of Sigmar. It doesn’t bring anything new to the table. I think this is also why Warhammer Fantasy struggled to really break into the MMO market – WoW was already offering a very similar experience but in an established game with large player base. There are fantasy games that could possibly transition to the table top but I don’t think WoW has the visuals to distinguish itself from Age of… Read more »
If I remember correctly Warhammer Fantasy and Warcraft actually stem from the same root (sort of) after an IP bust-up between GW and Blizzard.
So in a sense a Warcraft and Starcraft tabletop game have existed for many years already.
