For larger mat in their own bags I hang them up, but for mats without bags or smaller mats, I use rows of curved guttering brackets fixed to the wall, spaced 12″ apart, and they will hold several mats quite happily.

Also, great to see there is some Mythos content coming up! Really loving what I have received so far from them!
@siygess – oh hello, so six brackets for the 6-foot mats then. Sounds cool, got a pic?
@lloyd http://www.freewillstation.net/storage.jpg I used to store my 4ft mats here but now it holds 8 2×2 mats, rolled up in pairs. Considering the brackets are screwed onto an office-style partition wall they take the weight well and distribute it enough not to crease or mark the mats although for practical storage of a lot of mats I would only store two at a time on each ‘shelf’. I did consider using some half pipe too, but I didn’t want to risk moisture settling and pooling (which would then soak into the bottom of the mat). For identification I suggest running… Read more »
Hah! Loved the little sparkle from Justin’s head.
If you get hold of their storage bags, you can tag it with a picture to see what’s inside and save a huge amount of space, I have 8 just hanging from my bedroom door.
I’ve been planning on getting some of the large heavy duty card board tubes and hot-gluing them into a honey comb under my gaming table. With some tags or clips I will be able to label them for easy identification. The cardboard is sturdy enough for shipping and as long as they don’t get wet will last a good long time. Careful stacking/arranging will keep the weight of multiple maps from crushing the bottom row.
Some of the companies even ship the mats in tubes already.

Ha! I was coming here to reply about doing the same because that is how I store mine. I only have 10 total. Several for X-Wing and then other for various games like Guild Ball. I did exactly as you stated. Except, I numbered the end caps on the tubes and then I have a several pieces of paper laminated with the picture of the matts and the number. Since I have so few matts I can usually remember which number has which matt. Plus, it is compact and everything fits on a single shelf and if/when I need to… Read more »
What about PVC tubes ?
Then you could label the tubes with a picture of the mat & the name.
I love the twinkle that appeared from justins head when lloyd gave him a little polishing tap hahaha!
The ending shot of John made me LOL.
Nice catch up.
I liked the glee on John’s face “or we could take the mats home” *Big Smile*
Oops looks like Warren met too many mats….
Well, Warren is a playa.
@llyod rather than building all that. Buy some tag sleaves like the following. They are cheap for large quantities. https://m.uline.com/h5/r/www.uline.com/Product/Detail/S-12436C/Vinyl-Envelopes-Job-Ticket-Holders/Vinyl-Tag-Protectors-4-x-6-Clear?pricode=WB0211&gadtype=pla&id=S-12436C&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI0e-Fr_2n1QIVUJ7ACh3y8whJEAQYASABEgIZ9vD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds Then, take a photo of each Matt, and print out the photos small so they fit in the sleaves. You then attach the sleave to the edge of the matching gaming mat. Now roll up the mat, and store it on a shelf, so that the tag, containing the photo, sticks out the end. Now, you can store the matts all on normal shelves. When you want a particular mat, you don’t need to dig though the pile and unroll… Read more »
Wow…..
All the stuff you got, makes me a little jealous 😉
Good luck re-decorating.
@lloyd & @dignity the BoW Towers looks a mess!! hope its all clean and sorted for gaming this Sunday 😉 😉
I’ll be taking some time at the end of today to tidy up 😛
don’t work to hard, will bring chocolate hobnobs on Sunday 😉
Thanks for this 🙂 great idea with the matd. Looking VERY much forward to Johns hobby blog
I was thinking a central planning or architect’s blue print shelve. Since the have so many rolled up large print documents. Or at least they used to in the good old days. I like the idea of the overly large newspaper (like library’s used to have ) rack you guys are looking at. There could be an issue that you aren’t thinking of and could have a huge impact later. Fading. For most of us it wouldn’t be a big deal but with you guys trying to get everything just so a faded strip down the middle could be an… Read more »
You can get a Wire Roll File Compartment carts for PVC/plastic tubes to hold posters/mats rolled up vertically then roll them around from room to room as needed… we use them w/wide format prints and architectural printouts.
be careful of stacking floor to ceiling, esp. w/drop tiles, our fire marshals have a field day w/fire code violations if there isn’t a 18″ – 24″ clearance from the ceiling and sprinklers… hope ya’ll have good renters insurance with all that nice product and terrain!
Why dont you make the racking on a chain and pulley wheels then pin the mat board supports to it so you can rotate the racking round so you would not need a ladder..just a thought…
Build a box frame. Get some 7 foot long dowels. Get some 2″ x 6″ boards. Drill holes down the middle of the boards lengthwise the same or slightly larger than the dowel diameter. The holes should be pretty close together, with the edges being about half an inch apart. Then cut the boards in half lengthwise. This will result in two boards with half circle notches. Attach the boards, notches up, to the sides of the box frame so that the notches are parallel. Lay the dowels into the notches and drape the mats on the dowels. If you… Read more »
If you want, you can angle the notched boards at a 30 degree incline Going up as you go back towards the wall. This will let you see the mats behind the first one easier. If you repeat this incline on each level, you can keep the upper mats from laying on the lower ones.
Basically you’re gonna build a library newspaper rack.
