Space Marine Codex + New Reiver, Aggressor & Redemptor Kits On Pre-Order
July 22, 2017 by brennon
Games Workshop has gone full on Space Marine this week with their pre-orders for Warhammer 40,000 with a focus towards the new Codex and its Primaris Edition as well for you to pick up.
As with most releases, there is the standard Codex that most of us will be picking up. They are packed full of background, unit information and of course some of the statistics for your units too. This book specifically focuses on those Chapters which have stuck to the mandates of Roboute Guilliman so you'll still get the likes of Space Wolves and Dark Angles in the future don't worry.
There is also the Primaris Edition which comes with a Mini-Codex for quick reference during games, art cards and a Command Point Tracker too.
While this version of the book is very nice, I think that most people are going to be plumping for the standard Codex. However, if you're a die hard fan then one of these might make your bookcase look extra sexy.
New Miniatures
Leading the way for the new miniatures we have the Redemptor Dreadnought which will be getting an unboxing here on BoW later today!
This is a great kit and certainly one that John has been having fun with. It comes with all manner of weapon options and is a real step up from the traditional Dreadnought. I still have a soft spot for those walking tombs though if I'm honest.
Joining them we also have two new infantry units with the Primaris Reivers...
...and the Primaris Aggressors. Each of these units fulfils a very different role on the tabletop with the Reivers focusing in on close combat and sneaking up on their enemies whilst the Aggressors are there to blast their foes to smithereens.
Essentially walking fortresses, they are carrying enough armaments to level a bunker. They seem like they fit in around the spot between Devastators and heavily armed and armoured Terminators. They are certainly a more welcome look and design compared to the Centurions.
Will you be picking up the new units and the Codex?

I do love the grappelling hook gun
Yep that immediately broken space marine does look good 🙂
So these reivers are more expensive and posable than the ‘easy build’ variant ?
And please GW … think of something a little more interesting for this faction than the ‘big guy standing pose’
I also wasn’t aware that there was a niche between terminator and devastator that needed filling.
I am still not fan of Rievers because of those skull masks but I must admit that one with grappling hook gun is neat. Redemptor has grown on me during time and I find Aggressors to be better than Centurions. Codex is looking really good as was to be expected.
Liking all of these, could of done without the box of bones hanging between the Aggressors legs.
The box of skulls is optional on the Aggressors. Check out the sprues on the GW site.
I like it all I’ll pick up the codex first to work out lists
Thanks for pointing that out, not that it would have stopped me from buying them.
Really ? … You could of just clipped them off… I’m sure Justin has done a “How to” video on that somewhere …. 😉
Clipping would take up valuable time I need to complete my many projects ( Also couldn’t find a how to). I would have just built them with bones and marvelled at the phallic imagery.
That phallic imagery really depends on how you position them bones 😉
The 360 view of the redemptor has really sold it to me. Wasn’t a fan of it from previous images. Will definitely be picking up one of them plus some aggressors just as soon as I figure out what chapter to paint it all.
Why belt-feeds and ammo drums on the aggressors arms? Aren’t those redundant?
Yes they’re redundant… but don’t worry about it, any design common sense has been thrown out the window lately, so it’s not surprising.
Define “common sense” in relation to 40k (or Warhammer in general) and “lately”… http://www.solegends.com/citrt/rtb05landraiderswd104x.jpg; http://www.the-waaagh.com/forums/uploads//monthly_08_2010/post-7013-1282733671.jpg; http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2012/7/1/384092_md-Bad%20Moons,%20Epic,%20Gargant,%20Orks,%20Stompa.JPG; http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/warhammerfb/images/8/8a/Warhammer_doom_divers_by_faroldjo.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20150807035520
Having just looked at the 3D spiny version that isn’t an ammo drum but a system to redirect the spent casings away from the Agressor’s face/body
The Reivers are a must have for my Primaris army but I’m not liking where the relics are hanging on the Primaris Aggressors. Given enough time every space Marines unit will be replaced with a Primaris one.
I am shocked and aghast at the level of phalliphobia evident in this thread. I say let the Relic box hang where it will … and maybe get a bit of a swing up as the space marine advances. It would be intimidating for lesser mortals 😀
Think of the children, will no one think of the children.
I am !!! I am thinking of the boy children, must they go through life ashamed of their relic case.!!!! The poor little tykes. 😀
think of Justin, he will ble clipping those
The agressosors look to me like midget dreadnaughts.
nice.
I read from MWG forum that this new Codex doesn’t have points values. Can some one say is that true or not?
I read that they are in the back of the book like in the Indexes. This guy has a copy and hes says they are just separate.
https://ttgamingdiary.wordpress.com/2017/07/21/review-codex-space-marines-datacards/
This makes sense as they said if they need it they will be tweaking points with the new values being in the upcoming Chapter Approved books. With this you can still use the codex and if you need up to date points you can use the ones in Chapter Approved then just ignore the last few pages of the codex. Tho I prefer power levels anyway so it doesn’t really effect me.
Thanks. Good to know. Personally I prefer points so I am happy that those are still there.
It’s probably the same layout as the index books, which also had them at the back.
Codex price is a joke, surely ..
50 dollars for a 208 page hardback colored book. That is a very fair price. Not sure what the complaint is about.
If i just want access to the rules and skip the recycled fluff then its definatly not
How do you know the fluff is recycled if you haven’t read it?
Its a space marine codex, how much new info do you honestly think it contains?
1 dollar more than a standard codex, while being twice as fat?
If that’s a joke I like their sense of humour.
the primaris edition is ‘a joke’.
The plain old codex variant is at the price level one expects for books like that.
Hardcover 278 pages, about 100 thinner than the main rulebook.
Besides … you don’t “need” the thing.
You could buy the index book and get the stats for the new models from their respective boxes.
I’m really liking all of these. I’d still prefer to call the Agressors ‘Calgar-lings’ due to their loadouts though.
Sadly the whole Primaris range for me is a dissapointment, only the basic marines look good.
Everything is bulky, doesn’t look functional and has moar and bigger guns everywhere. I like some bits of realism and common sense in my science fiction, whatever 40k had has now been thrown out the window.
to be fair … realism never was that much of a thing in 40k.
OTOH I do get why certain design choices feel *Eh* odd
The thing I most like with the new reivers is the bolt carbines.. its an awesome looking weapon option that would add character to a kill team CQB specialist.. just need the Intercessors to try that option out on now
Well, i’ve pre-ordered the codex, i’m waiting to read about the Aggressors before i buy the kit and i’m still not sold on the Reiver mini’s, something about them doesn’t feel right to me.
