Unboxing: Warhammer 40k – Primaris Redemptor Dreadnought
July 22, 2017 by dignity
We sit down to crack open the Primaris Redemptor Dreadnought from Games Workshop for Warhammer 40,000.
This is the newest iteration of the walking tomb, allowing a Space Marine to fight on even after death. It is a great honour to be granted a Dreadnought, especially one of these!
The kit comes with all manner of cool weapon options and can actually be posed in a number of different ways if you're clever with rotatable limbs, wrists and more.
Will you be picking up one for your Space Marine force?

Now I want one … no make that two … or three.
And would it take lights ? hmmm there’s an option.
That’s a beautiful model. Looking forward to Chaos getting some love soon with some models of a similar caliber (and hopefully not just death guard specific)
They’ve done Death Guard and Thousand Sons, Emperor’s Children rumored to be coming..
So the little tiny minigun on the Dred’s left arm is heavy 12, high strength and AP? Bwhahahaha! It’s a cool model in person, but some of those new “Primaris Weapons” need to go into the community bits box (yes, they exist) or into the bin. The trend so far with these Primaris units is they hurl buckets of dice at everything, that’s great from a beginner mindset. I’ve encountered many Space Marine players that rely on the models to do the fighting and tactics for them. Long story short, I believe Primaris Marines will make a new wave of… Read more »
No that tiny minigun on the left arm is heavy 6, and I wouldnt really call S5 high and -1AP isn’t to much of a game breaker either
Yeah, people should have to play as something like Astra Militarum, where they have to make do with weapons like the Punisher Gatling Cannon, at Heavy 20, Strength 5….
and get burnt out from taking dozens of casualties every single game ?
Nope.
Beginner friendly armies that don’t become useless after a single mistake is what every game needs.
That is a great looking kit, definitely going to have to get at least one.
Thanks lads… you have sold it to me …. love the look of this kit
yes, it certainly looks like a must-have now – I was on the fence before.
Many of them. I will have MANY!!!
The Primaris gene seed has been improved including reducing the defects in the gene seed lines for Chapters like the Blood Angels, Space Wolves etc to less then 0.01%. The Primaris also come from the 31st Millennium so retain their memories of what the time was like just after the Heresy. The way the 41st Millennium seems now is weird as they don’t see the Emperor as a God.
Well even in 40K very very few Marine chapters regarded the Emperor as a god so nothing new there.
And from were did you get that they are from the 31st millenium? I only know that Calw started the project around that time but never finished it until the resurection of Roboute. And it is said that normal Marines can be upgraded to Primaris so for them nothing in how the universe is would change.
Its stated in the Dark Imperium novel. They were put into stasis in rotations and brought out again to train etc so Cawl could gather data then back into stasis. Cawl had special teams go around and pick ideal candidates from the project from legions recruiting worlds.
Thanks for that information. Yes for those guys many things would be new.
@johnlyons It sounds a bit like a StarWars Clone Wars vibe you are describing. Now that you mentioned it I do see the similar themes of a massive, potent, but disposable army purpose built. It GW do go with these theme I can see a wedge that could turn some Primaris to Chaos. Some of them might not be pleased to discover they are not meant to survive the war, even if they win.
It looks much better than the traditional Dread. Looks like it can move about much better than cans but could be seen as a bigger and easier target based on its size.
This video really makes me miss the build videos of the past.
Cracking kit. I would like at least a couple of them for my Crimson Fists.
Well… you’ve turned me around on that kit… I would actually buy one now.
Love these unboxings. All the chatter going on really gets my mind going with possibilities.
All dreadnoughts are made to have the “pilot” or sarcophagus easy to take in and out. They aren’t made to only ever have one pilot.
Fantastic video, really helped make my mind up about the model. Was very unsure about the poseability from the photos but this looks much better. As I’m going for a Dark Angel successor chapter then I’m naturally going for plasma!

@beef5570 – I’ve actually built both of these kits before they are great builds 🙂
This looks nice! And the unboxing was useful! I’ve recommended your work in our article about the model: https://alkony.enerla.net/english/the-nexus/miniatures-nexus/miniature-related/miniature-kit/primaris-redemptor-dreadnought-1-kit-for-warhammer-40-000-ed8-from-games-workshop-2017-miniature-kit-review
