Get Started In Fabled Realms As 4Ground Show Off Starter Sets
June 27, 2017 by dracs
With their Kickstarter just around the corner, 4Ground have decided to put out some previews for The Legends of Fabled Realms.
These include some images of the starter sets for both the Durggoi Coven and the Eightfold Path (open these images to see them in full).
These starter sets will be available on the Kickstarter through the A Few Good Fellows pledge, along with the Kickstarter exclusive model of Dragoes the Cartographer.
Dragoes is a fantastic, swashbuckling style character sculpt. 4Ground have worked to give their models a real sense of individuality, but this is a character model I particularly like.
Which faction in Fabled Realms catches your fancy?

This looks great and have been following with interest but what I’m not sure of is wouldn’t you need a set of each to play a game or with the rule set can you proxy models you already have?
Also I’d have thought a starter set would have had 2 opposing sets
That would be a two-player starter. Starter boxes are more commonly for a single faction. For example, you can get starter boxes for any of the Warmachine factions, and there’s also a two-player starter as well.
This will be hard to give a miss – I am counting my pennies for this already.
Take me now 4ground !!! ……. Strangely the last time I said something like that I was drunk and it ended badly. Can’t wait for this
Ok so reben , these are single starter sets which means either getting someone else who’s backed to play against or getting 2 sets of opposing forces in the KS,
Or if 4ground can give us more info will there be a 2 player starter set option in the KS and how much as two sets will cost £80 for 16 minis which is a bit expensive.
It tends to be the case with these types of games. I’ve had to do it with quite a few games. Most recently with Mythos which is £45 per starter.
They may well have higher pledge levels which offer a discount on getting multiple factions, though. We’ll know soon enough 🙂
The game looked really cool at Salute and seemed fun to play but the cards with a graphical design nightmare. A bit of refining and this could be one I’d be interested in.
What was the issue you had with the cards? I know that they are refining things all the time and have been involved in the play-testing. I’ll try to pass your concerns on to them.
There was an awful lot of text on them and they didn’t look quite polished enough. I can’t remember fully in detail as it was a couple of months ago now but we did pass our feedback on to the guy demoing it.
If I remember right, even just replacing some of it with icons or universal rules/keywords would have helped tidy them up.
Great models though, can’t fault them there! Will be interesting to see them in the game scale instead of the bigger versions they were using to demo.
Ok, I think that fixing those issues was… erm, definitly on the cards. Sorry.
I actually know that that was also feedback which we gave so I’d be surprised if nothing has been done.
My additional problem is I live in the republic of.ireland.which has the usless euro , with two sets plus shipping im looking at well over €100 , and again only sixteen minis.
Dark Imperium on the other hand came in at €100 but that has 53 minis and an amazing core rulebook /fluff and more. Ill keep an eye on this though.
A Zombicide: Green Horde pledge will net you around 140 minis for $120. I’m not suggesting you should get that over either Dark Imperium or this, just that price per mini is a bit of red herring as there’s lots of other things which need to be taken into account 🙂
Keep in mind that :
(1) this is not a fully realised product (“Kickstarter is not a store(tm)”). It’s best looked at as an investment with the physical reward being the bonus. And there’s always the possibility that it might fail to deliver or run into other issues.
(2) expect them to add more stuff as the kickstarter unlocks the inevitable stretch goals. More ‘free’ miniatures may be an option.
I’m torn between this and blood and plunder, as I already have 4 ships and 20 plus minis from black scorpion. Its just that the fabled realms stuff looks so good. Might leave it for now and pick up when finances allow.
Ye gods … their facebook mentions a two player starter set (‘The Battle Of Rustag ‘) which has 150 pounds worth of terrain. So that’s at least a few 4ground buildings in there.

My wallet … it is begging for me to stop reading.
I’ll be able to resist the skirmish game (for now) but if they introduce a D&D campaign guide, monster manual, etc I’ll HAVE to give in.
