Forge World’s Thunderhawk Gunship Soars Into Battle
June 9, 2017 by brennon
Forge World has released their awesome resin kit for the Thunderhawk Gunship onto their webstore. If you're looking for an iconic Space Marine flyer to drop into the mix then this would be it...
Here's some of the background on this particular flyer, something which many players of Warhammer 40,000 have been aching to have in their collection for years.
"The Thunderhawk Gunship fulfils a number of different strategic and tactical roles. Its primary mission is that of a drop ship but its utility does not end with the deployment of its lethal cargo of Space Marines, for it is a formidable heavy weapons platform in its own right.
Equipped with a dorsal-mounted turbolaser, the Thunderhawk is able to engage targets as large as a Scout Titan or super-heavy tank as well as enemy fortifications. In addition to its main weaponry, the Thunderhawk mounts numerous heavy bolters with which it can scour a landing zone clear of enemy troops in a storm of mass reactive shells.
An additional payload of wing-mounted missiles allows the gunship to operate in direct support of the squads it delivers into battle."
This is a massive flyer that comes armed with some rather insane weapons including two massive lascannons, six different sets of missile pylons, and numerous heavy bolters which are fastened beneath the wings.
Now you just need to work out where this is going to sit in your collection and indeed whether this is something you'd like to work on as an aspirational project. I love the idea of tinkering away on one of these over a number of months.
Now you just need to work out which Chapter you're going to paint this for. Whilst I like the red here I think it would look awesome in Ultramarine Blue.
If the Thunderhawk Gunship wasn't enough for you, you can also pick up the Thunderhawk upon a Landing Platform which gives you a perfect excuse to create a diorama.
What do you think of the Thunderhawk?

Great looking kit, almost makes me wish I was an Astartes player.
As a Marine player, one of these is my dream purchase ( but it wouldn’t end up smurf blue ) 😀 .
I resisted picking one up at WH Fest….. urge is returning again…. got my bonus yesterday too…..wife may divorce me…
Have one of the older kit, was a nightmare to put together, but talking to Darren (the designer) the new one seems to have resolved a lot of the issues….
is there any difference to the old one?
Quite a lot!
Cockpit/surrounding fuselage design, heavy bolter turrets, tail-fin, airbrakes, lift jets on the underside to name but a few 🙂
Only $575 plus shipping here in the States. I’ll buy two! 😉
It’s definitely on my wishlist
Ouch $761 Aussie Peso’s according to XE, AUD to GBP is awful exchange rate @ $1 to 59p.
But I wants it…………
I use XE for Oz to GBP aswell, but FW always seems to add a chunk more to the conversion than the official rate.
Very nice. Yes it’s still really boxy to be flyer but that was to be expected.
Nice reworking, but not interested in resin. Maybe rumours of the plastic one will be the new primaris version instead.
I’d be all over a plastic one.
does anyone know how they paint their red? it’s amazing
Now that’s out of the way, how about a Leviathan War Engine?
she looks fabulous and a lot more detailed than the old one.
