Red Thunder Book & Miniatures Coming To Team Yankee
May 5, 2017 by brennon
The folks at Battlefront have brought a new wave of miniatures to the tabletop for Team Yankee. Arriving throughout July you'll be able to hear the peel of Red Thunder as the Soviets roll out some serious firepower.
Here's a blurb of what to expect...
"The Soviet Union’s most powerful forces are stationed in East Germany and Czechoslovakia poised on the border with West Germany ready to strike at a moment’s notice. They are equipped with the very best Soviet industry has to offer, from sophisticated missile firing T-64 tanks and powerful T-72 tanks to versatile BMP infantry fighting vehicles, as well as plentiful BTR-60 armoured personnel carriers.
Supported by elite Afgansty Air Assault troops, powerful self-propelled artillery, and effective and numerous antitank and anti-aircraft weapons, there will be little that the corrupt capitalist armies of NATO can do to stop them. Soon the western workers will be free and the dawn of a new socialist age will begin."
The main draw of what's coming is going to be Potechknow's Bears & Yuri's Wolves which you can see here. You get a nice array of Tanks and Helicopters to play around with and each of them is supported by some additional vehicles.
Which breaks down as the T-64 Tankovy Company & BTR-60 Company which you can see above and the Storm Anti-Tank Platoon & SA-8 Gecko SAM Platoon below.
To blast your enemies away from a range you can also call upon some serious firepower with the 2S3 Acacia Heavy Battery you see below.
It's not just all grinding gears and metal (with plenty of explosions for good measure) as they also have some more Infantry include the Motor Rifle Company and the Motor Rifle Platoon.
You've got some excellent looking plastic kits to look forward to throughout this range. Basically, World War III is about to get a lot hotter and fun.
What do you think of the range?

Looking forward to increase my tactical options! Wonder if the book will contain a good selection of unit type and qualities.
Oh my God, is this … *gasp* … historical / moderns content on the front page? I love it!
And YES! Thank you, T-64s. 😀 All we need now are some T-80s and we’re all set.
Also very happy to see the BTR-60s. Pretty soon we’ll be able to build a proper Soviet tank or mechanized rifle regiments.
Lastly, SA-8s. Very nice. Now the A-10s need to watch out.
Great news from Battlefront. My Soviet shelf may need to be expanded before long . . . 😀
And look the btr’s are in plastic. 🙂 and the same with the 64s 🙂
I just hope the models are better than the 72s and so happy they are not the resin metal combo of the 55s.
But sadly still no hint to reactive-armor-equiped soviet tanks…
I was disapointed from the T-64-sprue shown at Salute…
An ERA-T-64 would also visually be a different option to the existing T-72!
For a moment, i thought it was a source book to take the fight to USA…AKA Red dawn…!! bugger….
Oooh..plastic infantry!! This could re-kindle my love for TY again 😎
Here’s hoping they’ll give us some for my US and Bundeswehr forces as well!!!!
Good to see the T-64. Be interested to see how the stats differ from the Russian T-72.
Who am I kidding? I’ll be forming up a second Soviet force from this, maybe repurpose my current T-72 force to E Germans.
Isn’t Potechknow’s Bears already out? Is this new release different from the one that came out originally?
Plastic infantry just might move this from “probably not” to “probably” for me. Now I’m tempted to see what other rule sets I could use these for in addition to Team Yankee.
Yes the Bears Box has been out a few times now. The original, the original with the extra t72 (to make up for the delays of the original release date) and the box set with the mini rule book. This is the newest set with the mini rule book. I think they are pushing the release again as it really is the best way to get going with the game and then add some of the new stuff.
if you read carefully you will notice that it’s not the same box anymore. The old box was 9 T-72s (+1 additional for the delay) and 2 Hind. The new set is only 5 T-72s and 2 Hind.
Missed the change in tanks. Makes sense as the price is under $100.
ooh looking good.
I need to find time to get these little dudes all done that I have so I can order some t64s. This seems to really finish up most of the Warsaw pact needs and once this starts moving forward a bit more the t80s will be on the way. It is strange that the website that the spandrel and other units based on that chassis aren’t coming out until later but they are already out as I picked them up for my East Germans. One could only hope that they will be in plastic as Team Yankee seems to have… Read more »
Yes T64’s I’ll have to go the whole hog on these please. And here I wa toying with the idea of a carnation battery, sod that, bring me the big guns. I already have five BTR80s for my airborne to ride in when the hinds are in for servicing but might just grab one box and proxy in the others so I can get the stat card.
Definitely not painting anymore 15mm camp patterns on infantry, i still have flashbacks (cheers Jim 😉 )
Also might pick up some BRDM-2s for a recce force.
Glad to see this coming out being a Soviet player. With British and West Germans getting some awesome equipment I felt the Soviets needed an upgrade. Now I can’t wait for Stripes to see what USA gets. I’m on the fence with NATO force to choose right now but hoping Stripes will have me playing USA.
Plastic infantry from Battlefront. Very conspicous about that.
Here is to hoping they get it right this time. Three times is the charm or how goes that saying? They tried it with the third edition two player starter box for FoW. Those were nearly ok. Then the ones from the last boxes were same quality or in case of the new africa boxes utter bullshit (and more like restic than plastic).
But now it’s “All New Plastic”. We’ll see. Keeping my fingers crossed.
T-64’s……yeeee….haaaaa!!!
