Hornchurch Wargaming Club Are All Hexes
I stopped off to find out what was happening with Hornchurch Wargaming Club who were playing a game which featured a lot of hex based mechanics.
This one seemed a lot of fun and it was nice to see people looking back towards more traditional means of tabletop gaming. Hexes mean simple!
Looks like an amazing game that was taking place today.
Interesting idea with the hexes, it does look a little restrictive though but i suppose warfare at the time was
Either grid or hex systems speeds up the game play 2 or 3 good as there no measuring ranges etc to the nearest millimeter. The big Raphia game elsewhere on the blog uses a grid system
Over the last few years I have become a big fan of them
Good=fold
Core, that takes one back.
Good stuff – the way it was
If the guys got any shots from the Kallistra table they were putting on a huge game of Cambrai using their WW1 hex rules
Good looking game there
hexes are such a great abstraction that makes movement so much simpler.
Great looking game.
This is the one with the HeroScape like terrain- interesting so customizable also.

Cannot beat some traditional period wargames
big table …..think i got table envy
Really nice looking table and game.
I would like to see BoW do a lets play with something on a hex base system as I think the last one they did was DUST a few years ago.
look strange to see a hexe game that big.
The church of Horn sounds interesting!
Love the sheer scale of these massive historical games.
Hex based games are really interesting, would like to try it out sometime

I recall the hexes being made of low or medium density fiberboard, and they were flocked on… Read more »
8″ to 12″ not feet…
I wonder if using hex based or grid based systems speeds up play dramatically?
As I mentioned earlier. Yes it does , 2 to 3 times quicker
Hexellent.
Hexes for the win
Back to the Catan table. I haven’t seen that many hexes since the last game of Micro Armour I saw.
Surely hexes speed up not only movement (as mentioned above) but also facing and field of view arcs? I feel a definite appeal to that kind of system, to free up the system to concentrate on other aspects/ details.
oh geez replying to myself, but anyway…
Look to Warforged, brand new game on KS now: Hexes.
That amazeballs dungeon crawler adventure on KS again, Gloomhaven: Hexes.
